I take it she doesn't approve of luxury cars.

Incorrect, because you should never include the Geopcdx file in the re-skin folder, everyone has to buy the original model to use your reskin

Here's how they lose money. I buy the Chessie system GP40 and make a Conrail paint of it. That is now $5 less per person that only gets the repaint and not the Conrail model when it is released.

Section F of the VRC EULA:

- F). This licensed software is for your personal use only, and you may not give away, sell, or redistribute any part of it to anyone else. Redistribution in any form, whether for sale or free, physical or e-media, is considered an act of piracy, will immediately invalidate your license, and may bring legal action against you. However, due to natural interest in creation of varying logos and paint schemes, we will make a special exception only for TgPcDx texture files. Please read Section 3: Repaints, for complete information on how you may handle these.

3. REPAINTS
- A). You have our permission to repaint, or as it is commonly known "reskin", textures that are supplied with our locomotive packs to represent other railroads that you may follow as a hobbyist. These texture modifications, known after this point as "reskins", are for your personal use only.
- B). You are completely forbidden, with no room for debate or arguement, from distributing your reskins if they are made to represent the trademarked logos and markings of the following railroads, their predecessors, or their current controlling interests:
- Burlington Northern Santa Fe, LLC. , commonly known as BNSF
- CSX Transportation
- Norfolk Southern Corporation
The reason for complete restrictions on this are two-fold. Number one, we hold the trademark reproduciton licenses for these railroads, and will make our own decisions about which of these railroads and their predecessors will appear on our locomotives, freight cars, and other goods. We have done the legwork, the legal work, signed on the dotted line, paid the fees, and have an artist in-house who does the paint work, so let us take care of it. The second reason is that under our reproduction licenses to these railroads, we do not have the right to sublet our license to you. That means we do not have the authority to give anyone outside of VRC permission to reproduce our Licensor's trademarks. We are bound by our licenses to assist our Licensors in any action against end-users who are found to be violating Company trademarks.
We reserve the right to add any future licensed companies to this list. At such a time, the same restrictions will take effect for those companies as well.
- C). We will not condone or support the modification and distribution of our textures ("reskin") into liveries of railroads that we do not hold licenses for. If you decide to do this, you are risking your own neck, legally speaking. Just because you don't charge to distribute a trademark does not mean a Company will take kindly to you using it. Furthermore, you may not charge for your reskin, and if we come into possesion of a trademark license for a livery you are currently re-skinning, you must immediately cease creating those reskins.
You also need to remember that we forbid the redistribution of our locomotive files outside of TgPcDx (texture) files - that means you can't be passing around shapes, sounds, xml or bins, scripts, or anything else that is not a texture file.

I choose to not take a side but I figured this info might help.

They have an End User License Agreement that states that you may not release a BNSF, NS and or CSX engine. CSX and NS own a stake in Conrail so they own the logos, which makes Conrail a part of their license.

(Make of this information as you will.)

So it's pretty much payware only for TS 2015 - which is what Steam and DTG wanted for a long time.Really puts a damper on the idea of a Trainsim "community"as far as I'm concerned.Next it will be routes afterall the RR's own them -- Licences for any prototypical routes? That will be next

The "Trainsim Community" as a whole has a ton to offer, but just since the focus is on VRC in this thread let's iron out a few things. Last I looked my blog was still up and getting new visitors, take a look and learn how to make your own freeware models and routes. MadMike who is also part of VRC is still doing freeware paints. In a broader scope the SD7/9 pack which GreatNortherner recently re-released was a collaborative effort between the three of us, and that is free.

But hold on. Lets reflect on the first part of your statement:

Really? Its clear you haven't looked at the file library here at RWA. DTG has not come and said "time for you to close shop".

This, the very last line seems to be being ignored. Without bins and xmls you can not make a repaint, except for yourself. It says you can only distribute textures.

Excellent update. The units are great as-is, but IMO they will be even more successful if people have incentive to buy them to use with repaints.
