Can't use ReDEM until my terrain data download links are emailed to me. They usually come right away, but 1 1/2 hours later and still nothing.

Hi

I can't understand why this is causing you so much grief. Whether you're using SRTM or ReDEM shouldn't make any difference at all, it should still be basically the same.

Are you 100% sure your route origin is correct? It's not too uncommon for folks to get the long/lat numbers transposed, and I wonder if that's what the problem is for you?

Don't give up. You're showing a commendable persistance in working out what's wrong, and you must be nearly there now. :D

Cheers

Bob

Hey Bob. How exactly do I set the coordinates? What coordinates do I enter? I'm not sure I want to spend 7 bucks right now, on ReDEM.

The easiest way is to click on your route and it will say to the right of your route name start coordinate. It only gives it to four decimal places but that's accurate enough.
Starting a route and learning all the tools is the hardest part but once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy to use.

One problem I vaguely remember having is losing one set of route co-ordinates when trying to enter the other. It was something like, I entered the latitude, then clicked in the box to enter the longitute and lost the latitude when I clicked go... only realising when I went opened the route so having to start over until it miraculously worked.

"Miraculously worked"... I think I just synopsised my entire history of route building in two words.

If I briefly go through the things that usually seem to go wrong for people at this early stage of route building maybe one of them will help you out.

It's hard to see from your earlier screenshots, but it appears that you want to be somewhere near the Aichision Waterfowl Refuge. Is that right?

Could you check to make sure that you've got your Google Earth set up for Decimal Degrees? Under Tools/Preferences there's a series of radio buttons and as you've recently got a different version of GE it's possible that it's defaulted to an incorrect setting.

The other thing I'd look at now is to check that in RWDecal you've gone into Preferences/Set Route Starting Latitude and Longitude. This should give you a list of loads of routes, and of course you select the route you're working on from here.

Of course if you've had to make any changes then you'll need to knock up a new set of decals to test whether it's worked or not.

If you get a chance to have a read through this following thread you'll see that the OP had a very similar problem to you.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll let us know how you get on.

Can anyone please tell me specifically how, to use ReDEM? I'm having a tough time following the instructions given with the program. Do I have do do one marker at a time?

I'm trying to remember where the tutorial that I used is. It's been over a year since I used it. From memory I used RWDecal first to generate the decals, and copied and pasted the UL, UR, LL, & LR co-oridinates to notepad, then used those exact co-ordinates in the USGS downloader so they matched. Something like that. What I do remember clearly is it took about a dozen attempts. When it worked I had complete terrain for my route, well beyond the extents of the horizon seen from the track.

This problem is back. *!mad!* **!!bang!!** I use ReDEM to import my terrain, and it had been going fin up until now. Now they are off again. There is either a gap in the center of the four asjoining decals, or they are overlapping. If anyone has an answer, I need it. I have an obligation to fill, and am already runnning behind. !*hp*! !*hp*!
