Actually, I tried to stretch my arm out of the cab's window, but thanks to all that streamlining my Euros fell onto the ballast instead. By that time, I was already late getting to the station and decided just to opt for drycleaning. !*drool*!

English indeed is simpler by miles! Then again, we have to define English or rather; is it Oxford or colonial English... *!rolleyes!*

Thanks, Hermit. I've spent at least 3 months a year in Italy for more than 25 years and Italian is the only language I've actually learned to use in everyday life. Some of the dialects are challenging, but most Italians do know Italian as well (for you Anglophones, that's not an oxymoron) and I can at least read Sicilian (grazie Andrea Camilleri). As to English, mine falls into your colonial category (subdivision general American) at an over-educated level, although I can get along pretty well as an imitation Brit. One of my best moments in Italy came when a local bookstore owner in Vicenza accepted and addressed me as a native speaker ... and Tuscan, no less, 'though she didn't spot me as Cortonese!

A dopo,

Tommaso

You're welcome! I beat my own record, I've lived here (which is 20 miles away from Mr. Clooney) the longest of any of the places I've stayed for an extended period of time. My story is the opposite (our stroy rather). I'm Dutch, so tall, blond and slender. My wife is Italian, not too tall, but blond with Nordic traits. She hails from Florence. Wherever we go in Itlay, people are convinced we are not Italian and in bars/restaurants address us in eh.... well English. You should see the surprise on their faces when we answer them in fluent street Italian... My laugh here is answering the Italian waiter that asks me: 'You finish...' with: 'No, I'm Dutch' !*roll-laugh*!
My job takes me all around the world on an almost daily basis, so I am not forced to spend 24/7 all year long in Italy, I'd go nuts. When retirement knocks on the door we'll either go back to Holland or move to South Africa. Our money buys a lot more there and the 'system' works.

Ci 'sentiamo',

Is there any chance at all of getting this back somewhere on track?

This wasn't about track, it was and is about water and about language, so it doesn't strike me as off water or off track. Happy?

My mistake, I thought these posts were supposed to be mostly about Railworks.

The thread is about Railworks, specifically, about the lack of a water-spray effect in the train washer on the Munich-Augsburg route. It's also intended to be humorous, so I wrote the title and the first part of my original message in (poor) German. That resulted in a slight deviation...

O, good grief, we're just having some fun here ... lighten up! If you don't have a sense of humor, ignore this thread, okay? **!!bang!!**

Easy my friend. If you look back maybe just maybe my post was made in jest. If I offended your sensibilities I am sorry.
