Personally, I've decided to keep everything legit and have spent an enormous amount with much more stuff i'm going to get as my finances allow (Some of you have some amazing skill and I can't wait). Given the small size of the RW community, I doubt that anyone is getting filthy rich and I figure it's an investment in the future of the simulator.
As for my route, there would be hundreds of things I wouldn't be able to share with the route and whoever wanted it would have to have been collecting for a while or do some big-time spending/searching like I did to play other routes. If RW were a drug, I'd be in really bad shape right now lol!
There is another route that I've been working on that I will share in the next few months. It will be pretty basic as far as the assets and things go.. My home town, Beauharnois
The route will go from here to a town not far off, Valleyfield. Then to the Border. From what I understand, it is one of only 2 lines CSX has that come into Canada(I'll have to recheck my train magazines). The line used to be NYC then CR. The other line is in Ontario somewhere I think... Here, we are on the St. Laurence river and there is a Hydro station, heavy industries locks for ships with a lift bridge, and a port in Valleyfield. One day I'd like to do the island of Montreal... okay I'm getting ahead of myself a little lol.
As for the rails, when I started, I didn't have a clue... and the route was for my personal fun anyway. Kind of a virtual layout/learning platform. The rails were nice but I noticed after a while of building that the rails were rough on my video card during game play and the game would stutter quite a bit (Since then, I've bough a better video card for RW). For others, if my route would ever be shared, the rails would have to be changed so, if for any reason, not to make the route annoying on lesser systems. Though if the route would encourage someone to support a developer, I never thought it to be a bad thing:) ...And since his routes are on Steam, they are often a first purchase for new simmers.
I'm going to start looking tonight for a way to change all of my tracks at one time... I believe I saw somewhere that it can be done. When I find out how, I will post back here. Who knows, it may fix the problems that I'm still having with my route/scenarios.
...and the party continues!
