Good grief! What a pain William! I can't believe they put you through all of that. A bit ridiculous, if you ask me.

Same happened for me for Half-Life 2.
It seems that someone stole my old Steam account, which I hadn't used for years, and did something bad with it.
It was then banned, and I would have to do that procedure to get it unbanned.
Problem is, I moved last year and got rid of all my software boxes, keeping only the CDs, manuals and writing down the serial numbers.

I had to scan and sign and then scan again a credit card the other day then email it to them. Isn't that about the same thing as writing a check?! And didn't we start using credit cards to get rid of checks?!

Hmmmmmmmmmm !*don-know!*

Yeah, and I am beginning to wonder if it was a good idea for Railworks to be involved with Steam in the first place. All of the games I have are not so. You go to their websites for any updates applicable and it is a simple procedure.

My son-in-law had the same problem with Steam with a game he bought for his son (my grandson) that required a complicated procedure to get the game reinstated on the computer. With Steam, having an install disk is insufficient to restore a game; you have to go through this rediculous procedure to get the game active again. This is pure nonsense, in my opinion.

For example, the original Microsoft Train simulator and Auran games for their TRAINZ simulator does not have any thing to do with Steam (although I understand that they are now getting envolved, which is a bad move for Auran games to do, I think...)

Anyhoooooooooo, I am now awaiting action from Steam to get me my RW3 installed... **!!bow!!** !*brav*! !!*ok*!!

It's installed and WORKING!

Unread postby William_Putnam » Sun Oct 02, 2011 9:39 am

Folks, you will not believe the draconian efforts I had to go through to finally get Railworks 2012 on my computer...and...WORKING!

If you recall, I had to do a clean uninstall and reinstall of Railworks and Steam (plus a RegZOOKA register clean-up.) I originally had a "duplicate dioalog ID" error message, followed by a message "RailworksPROC2.exe has stopped working" which forced me to do the clean install in desperation. You also know of the efforts I had to go through to convince Steam that I am the rightful owner of the original Railworks on disk.

It went even further then that. You do not know the back and forth movements I had to go through to prove who I am, answer secret questions, and then finally, reenter the "key" from the documentation that came with the game. I am disgusted with Steam! Realizing the need to cut down on consumer fraud, there has got to be a simpler way to do all of this. If I ever have to do this again, I would abandon the effort.

BUT...while Railworks works perfectly now (so far as I can tell, not messing with video card stetting and such) I DO NOT HAVE THE HORSESHOE CURVE ROUTE!

Do I now have to buy it???????????

Unfortunately, after all they put you through, since you already owned RailWorks (even though Steam didn't believe you), The HSC route is an additional purchase.
It only came free for new purchasers of RailWorks.

I thought it was supposed to be free to all Railworks2 owners! !*not-ok*!

Bu then, I am a fan of the Western roads, especially Union Pacific and BNSF, so I am not that all interested in the HSC route, although I am sure it is supurb.

I have been doing an expansion of the Barstow-San Bernardino Route, an expansion started by a guy named Thomas, followed by further work by OTTODAD (who no longer posts here.) Placing my work in RW3 show a whole bunch of missing assets, so I guess I am going to have to copy my old assets from RW2 (which I fortunately saved) into RW3 and see how it goes... **!!bow!!**

Oh wow! Otto is a very intelligent man who knows his stuff concerning Railroad simulators. He has given me some good hints and pointers on track laying and stuff.

I still get the "Duplicate Dialog ID" error, I really don't want to have to reinstall Railworks and then have to "build" it back up with all the add-ons and mods again. !*hp*! Did you have to do the Railworks reinstall or do you think just saving the SteamApps folder and only reinstalling Steam would work?

Sam, try this first. Copy the "steamapps" folder. Uninstall the Steam client. Run CCleaner, do the Registry clean. http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/ Reinstall Steam, then paste the "steamapps" folder back into the Steam folder.

It wasn't his intelligence that got him banned. *!!wink!!*
