Well, don't use krellnut's sounds if they don't work right for you, mate. If default and AP are fine, use them. I don't see anyone else complaining about the sounds in the cab from Krellnut's sound paks. Please, do not take that as any kind of insult.
I drove several engines yesterday, even with the default TS sounds, I can barely hear any cars in the cab from a passing train. One exception is the brilliant new DDA40X, when you slide open a window, or open a door, you hear all the outside sounds. But not all engines have windows and doors that open. I think it must be linked to the CabOcclusion file, like Ericmopar suggested.
I do normally have Walter's sounds installed, but I've been doing file verifications to try and fix missing content from TS2014 and have not yet reinstalled the sound pak.
