Braking the Challenger

Unread postby Flywheel » Tue Nov 13, 2012 7:37 pm

Now we have that fantastic upgrade to the challenger, i am unable to stop the thing without derailing. i have a couple of printouts on running the old dear but when needing to slow it down some and having to use some brakes, i am unable to do this with out derailing. Tried different little combos but still end up in the bushes. so if anyone can help with some advice i would be very pleased , Thanks Peter

PS Before the upgrade i couldnt get out of Laramie yard now it percutates along like a dream, going down hill seems aproblem now though. !*hp*!

Is this that third party enhancement pack that someone here put out? if so, I had to uninstall it, it was messing me up big time with the Challenger. I also had to go back to automatic fireman to get performance back to somewhat normal. well, kinda normal for the Challenger anyways.

Have you done all the usual stuff, like clear the blueprint cache and verify game files? (verify will wipe out any mods you have installed, tho)

Flywheel, as soon as I saw your post. I ran Cajon North Track with 50 coal hoppers and had no problems braking whatsoever.

Ran my scenario, Sherman Hill - Overland Limited with bpetit's Upgraded performance Greyhound Challenger as the Player engine and train. Performed flawlessly with no problems braking on the 1.5% downgrade into Laramie with 16 LTWs.

All I have noticed, and the BB too, is to not over brake with an extremely long heavy load. Then you might derail but not always.

Thanks for the replys, i think the last reply hit it on the head, long train and probably over breaking. i tried the same thing on the Chanllenget tutorials and all went well, so driver error i think. thanks for replying. Pete

Challenger and Big Boy are both being reworked by RSC, up to TS2013 specs. They will both be available again when they are done. As to when? Your guess would be as good as mine. !*don-know!*

No, because the upgraded models come from RSC (yeah, gonna have to pay for them all over again, Topics here already about that) RSC has to submit them to Steam/ Valve to be sold here. Now you factor in "Valve Time" you can look that one up in Wikipedia) and we're looking maybe mid December. Maybe.

Well hopefully before Xmas, I want a challenger hopefully I can convince someone to repaint it into The WM Fireball Scheme. Other than that the UP's big steam wont get much of my Money. Now however i would pay much mula for a H8, or Class A. The, Gaints of the Applalachian's.

If I recall, there was a C&O H8 model at elvas-something but I haven't heard through the grapevine if anyone converted it yet.

Toripony was looking far and wide for an H8 for her C&O Allegheny route but either never found one or couldn't get one converted for RW.

The H8 was also on trainsim.com but it did not include the source files. Maybe @ Elvas tower was where the source files were located. There was also a Class A but both were done by the same person and they did not include the source files with the download. Hopefully some day will start getting a few of the Big steam engine's for the eastern RR's into the game.
