removing the splash screens

Unread postby gwgardner » Tue Oct 09, 2012 4:39 pm

When loading a scenario, the three rotating splash screens are driving me bonkers. I mean the constant rotation at a very fast pace is giving me a headache, or I have to look away. Anyone know of a way to get rid of those? Or perhaps to delete two of them, so there's no rotation, or ... something.

I haven't check lately, but these may have been compiled into the screen dialogs and cannot be changed at this point.
Cheers!

Anything can be changed if there is sufficient will to make change.

Well, the dialog *.ed files cannot be opened by normal means. Perhaps Mike Simpson has a way, else it's time for a hex edit.

I figured it out :D

On your computer, navigate to the "data" where you ahve your Railworks/TS2013 installed;

Example path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\railworks\data
Of course, the path on your computer could be different according to where you have Steam and Railworks/TS2013 installed on your computer.

You'll see one of the folders there named "flash"

Simply rename it, perhaps to something like "flash.OLD"

That's it.. No more loading screens. Instead you'll have a black loading-screen, but you should still see the blue-bar indicator along the bottom to let you know it's still loading/working.

Of course remember, if doing a Verify Integrity procedure, it might put that flash folder back to default.
In the meantime, you now have a way to not seeing the 3 loading screens constantly flashing by (and it probably wouldn't be so bad if each picture stayed on screen for more than a couple of seconds before looping to the next one and repeating... maybe there's also a way to extending the time between each cycling of the pictures).

A follow-up with good success !*YAAA*!

Okay, here's what I did, I made a backup copy of that "flash" folder and all files in it.

Then, I go into the "flash" folder (not the backup one).

Make two copies of that "test.swf" file, so you'll have like "test.swf", "test2.swf" and "test3.swf" as an example.

Rename all "UI_BG*" files to have a ".OLD" extension, so it looks like this:

UI_BG_01.swf.OLD
UI_BG_single_01.swf.OLD
UI_BG_single_02.swf.OLD
UI_BG_Slideshow02.swf.OLD

Now, rename "test2.swf" to "UI_BG_single_02.swf"
and then rename "test3.swf" to "UI_BG_Slideshow02.swf"

(of course without having the quotes "" in the files names)

Now, when you run TS2013, instead of seeing those 3 quickly repeating loading screens, you'll have that one nice picture of a rail-road yard scene instead. You'll still have the blue-loading bar at the bottom to indicate it's loading/working. Rejoice! !*brav*!
