Driving GP7s in 2012

Unread postby LionelDave » Fri Mar 30, 2012 10:02 am

I'm trying to run the scenario Coal Drag in the Big Horn route.

The train shows up with all the GP7 engines but I can't drive it. The speed, direction and brake sliders in the hud all stay in the same spot. I have also tried the keys w,s,a and d to see if that would work to know avail.

I have installed the DRB_SAL-GP7-TS2012.rwp file but I could not find the file gp7_mapper.bin file to copy it into the folder called for. A search of my hard drive could not find the file.

I would really like to get these engines to work so any help would be appricated as I'll be the first to admitt I really don't know what I'm doing.

Thanks
Dave

Hi,

I think you can find the input mapper file in the main archive (not the RWP) of the SAL engine. Copy it into the inputmappers folder and all should work fine.

Thanks for trying to help me Michael but I couldn't find the file gp7_mapper.bin anywhere in the Assets, DRB_SimStuff/NA/Railvehicles/diesel/GP7/engine folder. The only thing I can think of is that the SAL engine is NOT in this line but if it isn't I don't know how to find it.

BTW I just found out that if you select the "simp" engine instead of the "lead' or "trail" engine the sliders in the 2012 hud work. I never realize that the sliders were simple controlls. I know I did not select the simple controlls in the option section. If they are why have them as an option.

Hi Dave,

I think you can find the gp7_mapper.bin file in the DRB_SAL-GP7-TS2012.rar file from the library here. It is a seperate file, packed into the RAR file, so it will not be installed into Railworks automatically when you install the RWP package file.

Regarding the "SIMP" engines, I think David Brindley created these for all who don't like the advanced features of the LEAD units. As far as I know the SIMP engines use the same controls as the default engines, so they will work with the "Fisher-Price" F4 controls and also in simple mode. The LEAD units only work in Expert mode, and only after the gp7_mapper.bin has been installed.

Cheers,
Michael

I'm not doing something right because I can't find the file when I unpack the file (DRB_SAL_GP7-TS2012). I get a rwp file, a readme file and a jpg file, but no bin file.

However I did find gp7_mapper.bin file when I unpacked gp7_sal_a2rwz file in the RW2 files. But it didn't work. 2012 must use a different version of the mapper file.

Thanks for trying to help me. But if there is a way to mess something I will find it.

That is odd, the mapper file has not changed at all. When I re-did the GP7 for 2012, I left that entirely alone, so it should work as the docs indicate. I'd suggest double checking the install directions to make sure you put it in the right directory.

I'm probably too close to the problem. Because I get the same results every time it.

I'm going to wait a few days and try it again and see if I can get it right then.

Thanks for the help

The input mapper is hidden. You must go into your windows options to show hidden files and folders.

Well I THINK I know what is going on and I need a little confirmation.

Last night I reloaded eveything to do with the GP7s again (I lost track of the number of times I have done this in the past few weeks :D )

But I still got the same results. So I started fooling around with the engine in a scenario and came away with the following ideas.

1. Each version of the engine has 3 variations or options (lead simp & Trail if I remember right).

2. Two of the versions seem to need me to drive the engine by using the keyboard or the levers in the cab. (I couldn't figure out the sequence (too many combinations of options and settings) but I got the engine started and ran part of a secnario before I derailed the engine because I couldn't get it slowed down fast enough. )

But I could NOT drive it using the sliders (for lack of a better word) the accelerator, direction and the brake sliders shown in the HUD.

3. the third option "simp" allowed the engine to be controlled by the sliders. and the engine seems to work like any other engine driven by the sliders. (it was so late that I didn't get test it very much).

I know the read me file said that this was the simple mode.

My question is this. Is this simple mode the same as the Game's simple mode? (I think this is where I am getting mixed up.)

Or can I run the GP7s in this "simp" varation in any scenario and have the GP7 respond as anyother engine would? (When I have the game set to expert mode)

Please help !*hp*!

Dave,

Your second statement is correct. It allows you to run the GP7 just like a Kuju SD40-2 in expert mode.
