How do you create a bin/xml file to install BritKits addons

Unread postby SouthernPacific-Mike » Mon Feb 20, 2012 5:34 pm

Hi all!

Let me first say I’m here seeking knowledge. As a recent member of the Railworks 3 Community, I like all people, have some questions. Currently I’m mucking around with the “Ohio Steel 2” route and scenarios and I’m having a blast. I can’t wait for “Steam” to update it to the 1.2 version, hopefully that will not be too long. But I digress, I was thinking about purchasing additional scenarios and one calls for the use of “Steel Works Pack #1” by Britkits.

But when I went to the website I read the following concerning their products. “One of the reasons for the “kit” format is for you, the end user, to learn how to manipulate the various files needed to get rolling stock into Rail Simulator. To this end not all the files needed may be included. For instance, in the GP9 Xtra pack there are shape and graphics files for the GP9 B unit but no bin/xml file. As all the GP9s are basically the same it is for you to work out how to create a bin/xml file from the ones you already have in the kit. I will not usually give help here as it is expected that you have the knowledge or are willing to do research to get the information of how to do this from other sources.” So I ask, how does one create a bin/xml file from the ones you already have in the kit? !**conf**! If it was a RWP file, I would know how to install it. But this seems to be a bit different and I would appreciate the help. *!embar*! Thanks in advance!

I have the SteelWorks Pack from Britkits and it came with a rwp file that I just installed using the RW package manager.

No 'Extra" work involved.

Why not just copy the .bin file and rename it. Then you can edit the new file and add details.

Britkits sells two quite different kinds of products. Their kits contain one or more models designed for (relatively) easy modification and usually come with modification instructions that I, for one, have never been able to follow successfully. Then there are packs, such as the one that is the subject of this thread, which also contain models but lack the modification materials and instructions. In my experience, the kits install by means of an executable file, while the packs install through an RWP file.

Have I created clarity or confusion?
