High Pitched Sound

Hi all,

I am getting some sound issues in RailWorks, where the sound is played faster, which makes it sound higher pitched this effects every sound that RailWorks plays. I did not have these issues before I formatted my Hard-Drive and reinstalled everything. This in turn points to a software issue, but at this point I am stuck. I do not know which software/drivers, are the ones that I need, and I don't know where to find them. The only thing I can tell (so far) is that my computer uses Sigma Tel Audio. And my driver(s) for sound are probably very outdated. I'm running Windows XP SP3 and would appreciate any help.

If that's an on-board sound chip, which it sounds like it is, you may have to update your Motherboard drivers, which would update the sound chip as well.

Erm, I can't tell whether I have built in sound, though when I open up the computer, I don't see any indication of a chipset though.

If you don't have an actual sound 'card', then you have a chipset.

Okay, so I'm not sure how to find what type of Motherboard I have, and where to find updates for it.

You can download this handy utility to find out those details:

Go to this link http://www.hwinfo.com/download32.html and download HWNFO32, install and run it. It will give you a ton of info about your system.
I would recommend not getting the beta version though, but that's your call. I tend to stay away from beta versions.

And digging around a little in the links on the left of the screen you'll see behind this one will give you more specific info about your MB, as well as other system info.

Ah! You have a Dell. You should be able to go to their web site and get updates fairly easy, although I won't swear to it. I've never owned a Dell.

Well, this is what I see, and the one with the Red dot i've installed already (I just downloaded it and ran the install wizard). I restarted my PC and nothing has changed, so that might not have been it.
