Cajon Pass Alpha installed, cannot find

Unread postby paulcbenoit » Wed Jun 20, 2018 4:05 pm

I searched out all the prereqs, bought non-freeware versions of 3dtrains prereqs. Found and installed all others with one exception: Pipeline Lofts from Golden Age of Railroading ... would not download ... showed me the txt version of the file ... tried copying the text (gibberish) version into notepad, renaming to .RWP ... but this caused an error in the package utility.

Using TS18, BTW. Looked everywhere, career, standard, free roam, etc.

In the route folder, i note the TOMCAT folders sub folders are empty except Route Markers, Scenery and templateRoutes.

Would appreciate some pointers here ... from searching the forum, it looks like others have been successful ...

Thanks so much

.- well, I’m sure Hack appreciates it, but the freeware versions were all you needed.

. - You need to notify GreatNorthern via his website of this problem to get help.

. - As previously stated, the route is an “ALPHA”, meaning that this route is still a work in progress and there are NO scenarios included. You will need to create your own scenarios, or, download and install the few that are in the File Library here on this site....

What else?

Hi Paul,

I just tried the download link for GreatNortherner's pipeline lofts and it works for me. !*don-know!*

The route will run fine without the pipelines, the missing assets just won't show up.

Ok, thanks for the response. I was going to ask if the dependencies are Hard .... i.e. program will not load at all without the whatever. Or soft ... as you indicate the particular object will not be seen. That makes sense, But I didn‘t know.

I downloaded and installed the 5 Victorville scenarios for Mojave-Cajon but still cannot see the route or those scenarios.

I am new to this “again“ after being away for a few years .... If I recall from back in the 2012 days, things “just worked”. O well ... I am now retired and having enjoyed the Rail Sim immensely in the past thought I would start again. O well .... I really wanted the Mojave Sub with Trona ... and Cajon with the Lucerne Valley subs ... thus my trying to get the Mojave-Cajon and Mojave Desert Railroading routes installed. Other than the missing track issue with the desert railroading route, I see no one with issues with either route. So I am stymied. Trying to learn how it all hangs together all over again.

The Utilities Package manager indicates I have all prereqs except the Pipeline Loft which you say I can “get away with out installing”.

Question: If you have a route installed, but no scenarios which use the route, do you see the route? Silly question I know.

Bought Tehachapi also, installed and I can’t see it either in the routes. Must pursue that with 3dTrains.

I can see the routes in the “Build” function ...hmmmmmm. I am SERIOUSLY missing something here.

Any other insights would be most appreciated.

Thanks and have a great day!

Tehachapi Pass definitely does not contain any scenarios....it’s a work in progress. But, there are some scenarios on the 3DTrains forum downloads section that will work. Other than that, you’ll have to make your own scenarios for that route.

Tomcat included several freeroam scenarios with his route.

Ok, you say you can see “Tehachapi Pass” and “Cajon_Mojave” routes on the Route tab after selecting “Build” from the Main menu, but, you can’t see the routes and scenarios under either the Standard or Free Roam tabs after selecting “Drive” from the Main menu?

You should be able to select Drive, then the Free Roam tab, then scroll down to “Cajon_Mojave” and see “Freeroam - Cima”, FreeRoam - Mojave”, “FreeRoam - Needles”, “FreeRoam - San Bernardino”, “FreeRoam - Victorville”, and FreeRoam - West Colton”.

Please confirm here, yes or no, if you see these.....

Thanks for the quick reply.

Can’t see Cajon-Mojave in either standard or free roam tabs **!!bang!!**

Just checked routes in BUILD ... no Mojave-Cajon there ... must have been hallucinating last night when I looked.

The Tehachapi issue is resolved by installing a cou0le of scenarios !!*ok*!!

Thanks for your help!!

First things first... Welcome to the forum!

Now on to trying to clear up some of the mystery... mystery of my own making I'm afraid.

This sounds like what several folks have experienced in the past. You might have realized at some point that I botched the packaging of the route and buried the route folder one level too deep. In my thread on the route in the Freeware section I responded to someone who had, what seems to be, the same problem. I'll just copy and paste the fix for my packaging error here and hopefully it clears it up for you;

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure this is my bad. The problem is that you followed my instructions to the letter and I made a goof when packaging up the route. I indicated in a past post in this thread what needs to be done but you can't be expected to go however many pages back to find the solution, I even had a bit of a search myself and I wrote the darn thing.

I'll just insert the relevant part here. Sorry for any confusion/frustration.

"This appears to be my bad if it's what I think it is. The order that you install everything doesn't matter but what does matter is that I inadvertently buried the route folder one level too deep. Navigate to the route folder, 9440eb2e-a1d0-4732-b737-b0a1607325ce and look inside - you'll see another 9440eb2e-a1d0-4732-b737-b0a1607325ce folder - cut that folder out and paste it back up one level to the routes folder, you can then delete the now empty original 9440eb2e-a1d0-4732-b737-b0a1607325ce folder. Hopefully that will clear up the issue. FYI, there are only Free Roam scenarios supplied with the alpha so the only place you will see the route is under the Free Roam tab."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to Roger and Colin for chiming in with some tips and things to look out for.

As far as the pipeline loft goes you might want to try using another browser to download it. I've had that problem a couple of times in the past with other downloads from other sites and using another browser worked for me. I used Firefox just a few minutes ago and it downloaded fine. Hoping this clears up the problem and you can finally see the route, but if not or you need further clarification just give a shout here.
Download the PRB from page 51 of the Powder River Basin thread.

BINGO !*cheers*!

I got the Victorville Part5 Scenario to load and work. Part 1 said it was missing stuff ... will have to look into that later. and try parts 2,3 and 4!!!!! The Free Roams loaded ... I could see the tracks, but no loco or cars ....

But you got me off the dime Tomcat!!!!!!! Now I'll have to do my own scenarios!!!!

Even the Black Mountain Mine spur ... I lived only a few miles from there ... used to see the movements every now and then on the way to I-15 and Barstow from Apple Valley. Awesome.

Again, thanks very much ... you made my day, and perhaps made my week!!!!!

Cheers!

And thanks for the welcome!!!!!! And second, no needs for any apologies. I am very thankful for all of your work ... and that of the others who make this route possible with assets, and everything!!!!! And third, in my 70 years on this planet, I have NEVER made a mistake! hahahahahahahahahaahahahahaha, rolflmao .... If only. One of my many doozies happened in 1985 ... was tech support mgr for a reinsurance co in Boston. sitting at the mainframe console while the operator was at lunch, i was having a smoke (oy and there were halon spigots all over ...) I inadvertently somehow pressed the SHUTDOWN button on the system console keyboard. O well ... took a while to live that one down. The users were happy for the 10 minute break while I IPL'd the system and restored normal ops ... O well ......

Have a great day!!!

Cheers
