Did some research on this today by calling a fiend of mine that works for Microsoft. Turns out that on many versions of Windows, including 7 which I have, many files default to read only. So when you uncheck read only, and go back and look at it immediately after, it will be checked read only again. This does not stop you from writing to that folder or changing it's name, or overwriting files it contains, it's just some kind of weirdness in windows. There is a way to change it permanently , but not worth the trouble.
