Lost profile

Unread postby wozzie » Sat May 31, 2014 9:21 pm

I have just treated myself to the Lakeside route and so far it's a fantastic effort from all concerned. One major thing though I have lost all my previous saves/drives from the standard scenario screen. I have a backup of the game and can someone point out the files that need to be transferred from the backup to restore my previous driving efforts.
Thanks, Cliff

You mean your green tick marks have disappeared?

Hi,

That's (I think) an issue that occiasionally happes in RW, I doubt the route has anything to do with it.

For more information, please read on here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9657

Cheers,

I'm a little disappointed that this would still happen, because with the latest update from DTG it was supposed to be fixed.

Michael thanks for the tip to read the other topic, just downloaded and used that file repair and all is well, the green ticks have been replaced.
Thanks again.

Glad to have a satisfied user for this script!
May I ask that you post a reply on the thread linked above, so that readers know the script is working well?

Re: Lost profile - Green tick marks

Unread postby DapperDan » Sun Jun 15, 2014 4:05 pm

Sorry to hijack the OP's thread, but I didn't know where else to post my problem. I had also downloaded and installed the Lakeside route and yesterday decided to try out some of the scenarios. All was going well until I tried the "Passenger Set Up" scenario. I was supposed to stop my engine just before the turntable but no matter where I tried to stop the task wouldn't complete, so I decided to exit and do a clear cache. Well guess what, all my green completion ticks went bye-bye, and no, I don't think the loss of my tick marks has anything to do with the route. The following is what I've tried.

- Ran RWDBRepair from my 6 month old backup, and yes I know I should've been backing up more often but I hadn't been in TS much since the BU, so figured whatever tick marks would be missing wouldn't amount to many. To my surprise and disappointment I found after running the program I only had about 60% of my tick marks.
- Ran a Steam verify and it stated 114 files needed to be fixed.
- Fired up TS and ran a few more scenarios from their save/resume points and then did another clear cache. The result being all tick marks gone again.
- Ran RWDBRepair again and once more and again found only a portion of the tick marks where back.
- Another Steam verify (73 filed this time).
- Ran a few more scenarios from their save point and quit for the day.
- This morning I ran a few more scenarios from their save points.
- Ran another Steam verify (111 files).
- Started up TS, but only to the main menu then I exited.
- Ran Steam verify again (this time 110 files).
- Started TS in offline mode and ran a scenario.
- Another Steam verify (111 files this time).
- Did another Steam verify and this time 0 files needed fixing.
- Started TS in offline mode and again exited immediately from the main menu.
- Another Steam verify (111 files again).
- Tried TS again in offline mode and ran a scenario.
- Another Steam verify (111 files).
- Fired up TS in offline mode and tried a clear cache. This time all my green ticks were gone with the exception of the scenarios that I had run yesterday and this morning.

Sorry for being so long winded, but I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I'm thinking of copying my current in game asset and content folders to safe place and then take and copy my 6 month old BU folders to Railworks. If this doesn't solve my problem then I'm wondering if anybody might have a suggestion as to what to try next. Could I take and delete the content folder in the game and then see if Steam would replace/update it, as I shudder to think of having to reinstall the whole program plus the routes and assets I've downloaded. !*hp*!

Any help would be appreciated.

I can assure you that RWDBRepair is working correctly, especially if it completes without errors, but you can send me the log for verification.
If it does, then your 6-months-old backup really has 60% of the tick marks left, which wouldn't surprise me because at that time the game had a tendency to erase them, which is why I made this program. So it is possible that they were erased before you made your backup.

In that case, you wouldn't need to do a verify or a clear cache.

Your problem with the latter is weird.
The "Clear cache" button in Settings/Tools is supposed to clear only the blueprint cache, no one ever mentioned this should clear the green tick marks, or maybe no one ever noticed. This is not documented. And yet, it clearly has this effect on your game, so I would stop using this function and instead use this command, in a DOS box or in a batch file in your Railworks folder:
DEL *.PAK /S

This clears the blueprint cache.

Your problem with files failing to verify may come from a network problem between you and your Steam server.
When Steam says "111 files failed to verify", it means literally that. It doesn't mean 111 files are corrupted, just that Steam could not verify their integrity. That's why you usually have to verify a few times in a row until you get 0 failures.
But you have done that already:
- Another Steam verify (111 files this time).
- Did another Steam verify and this time 0 files needed fixing.

So, if you have no other problem whileplaying the game, I would say that the STeam verify function gives false positives due to a network or other problem.

Thanks for the reply Chacal, and yes, you are mostly likely correct in regards to the missing tick marks as I don't scan the various routes when I'm in TS. I did a little more searching after posting my thread yesterday and found a file called content_log.txt and when I opened it up I found that it showed 110 files were missing and all in Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Railvehicles\Diesel, as in this example "[2014-06-15 10:20:30] Validation: file missing "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\RailVehicles\Diesel\ES44AC\BNSF\Cabview\Textures\es44ac_cab_1_bnsf.TgPcDx".

I also noticed this as well "[2014-06-15 10:20:30] Validation: file missing "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\verify_cache_key".

Anyway, lesson learned as I will be backing up more often going forward, and I'll be using your DOS command in the future.
