Marleyman reskins slaughtering FPS due to headlights always on

Unread postby skaliwag66 » Wed Mar 05, 2014 4:35 pm

Hi,
I am copying this from my post at train-sim.com

Hi,
I am trying to make some free roam scenarios using these fantastic repaints. All M.Man's other reskins work fine, look great and don't cause any performance issues but the ones that come with the "bakers Dozen" pack and also those with the "SD45 SPSF kodachrome pack" and possibly other that I have not yet checked have issues with the headlights always on in the scenario editor. This causes a dramatic drop in FPS and there is no way to turn them off, either in the editor or in the scenario itself from within the cab (the buttons don't move at all). The locos that work normally will have those lamp icons where the lights should be in the scenario editor, but these reskins don't have any lamp icons where the headlights are. Instead, both the front and rear headlights and all other lights are on as I place them in the scenario causing a massive FPS drop. The headlights when the locos are working properly do not cause this kind of drop in FPS. I checked the default SD45 by running a normal scenario and it worked. But for some reason when I pick the same loco in the editor, the same problem arises. This only occurs with the UP SD45 and not the SP and other SD45s from DTM. Is there any way to fix this?

Thanks.

P.S. I think this is more a problem with the DTM model and not the reskins.

Did you copy the .out files to each repaint folder?

hi,
All folders have their "SD45_EngineScript.out" files. No copying was necessary to install the pack.

There are two causes here, fix one of them, and the problem goes away:

1- the headlights are stuck on;
2- the headlights cast shadows, which causes a huge performance impact.

I'm not sure on how to fix #1, but I think #2 is easily fixed by editing blueprints.
I'm at work now so I can't check this.

The shadows aren't the problem. The problem is with the headlights as they are not showing their proper lighting icons in the editor. It affects the function of the light switches in the loco too rendering the locos useless.

Someone needs to figure out why this is happening. I do not have this condition. Not to drift off into geek speak but could this be a function of the video card? I have just anecdotal evidence that NVidia cards handle RW a whole lot better than others.

Here are a couple screens to show you what I mean:
Taken on the Cajon Pass

I should probably mention my specs:
i3 550 3.2Ghz, 4GB DDR3 RAM, Radeon HD 5770.
This is the first time I used a Radeon card and I am very pleased with it. I experience no more trouble with it than I did when I used nVidia in Railworks.
I have my Railworks settings maxed out except AA which is on 4xMSAA (used to have it on 8x but there is really no difference between 4x and 8x in this game) and view distance at 'High'. I have DOF and Headlight Flares OFF. I also have my game limited to 30FPS at driver level. I get decent rates between 22-30 on all routes. It drops down to as low as 11 (london brighton coming out of london with rush hour level of traffic, and WCML and WCML Over shap with decent amount of AI) in populated areas.

Shots taken on Cajon Pass.
Shot one is the way the locos are supposed to behave in the scenario editor. I get 30FPS solid with this.
Shot two is the problem. All the locos exterior lights are on, it is missing the lighting objects (I cant control the lights from the cab in the scenario because of this error) and the frame rates are destroyed!

Is that the same engine in both shots?
Also have you tried to empty the blueprint cache?

Yup that's the TSX engine. I never turn it off.
And I frequently clear blueprint cache. I did just before I took these photos.

Thanks.

When I am in the scenario, I can click the loco as normal but the lights do not change. And all the headlights, number lights, step lights, in the loco do not work at all. They don't move. I'll try running one from Quick Drive.

JUst gave it a go. No luck.
Guess it is hopeless until there is some kind of fix.
Such a shame because these are some of the nicest repaints I've seen.
It's just the repaints under SD45-UP that do not work. The other's do.
Thanks

You guys should know, that I'm not using any SD45 reskins, and my DTM SP SD45 has the same problem since the update to TS2014.
I don't know if it happened right after the update or if it happened after the clean install that I did, when I was trying to fix the tunnel lighting issues and other new bugs when 2014 came out.
It's the same problem with trailing unit lights being on, like the SDs in Donner Pass. In an external view the lights appear to be off, but you can see the beams and shadows they cast between units.
It's very frustrating. It not only causes the FPS to drop like a rock, even with my GTX 780, but causes the annoying bright light that comes and goes in the cab.
I haven't hardly touched my SD45 since, and it used to be one of my favorite locos. **!!bang!!**
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.

Ok I fixed the repaints.
Something in the .bin files was keeping the lights on.
If you are having performance issues with these reskins this will fix them.
