.rwp problems [SOLVED]

Unread postby LandN » Fri Apr 11, 2014 10:00 pm

I recently installed Windows 8 (my mistake) and then reinstalled Windows 7. Now my .rwp files are unreadable and also I cannot get my TS2014 package manager to work. Any ideas what to do to correct these problems.

I presume that Win 7 is fully up to date? What .rwp files do you mean? If you're trying to look in the .ap file folders, you need to use 7zip (or Win Zip) to unpack them.

Have you verified the game files thru Steam? Right click on TS2014 in your Steam Library, choose Properties> Local Files tab, Verify. You may also want to clear the TS2014 cache. In Settings, on the main TS2014 menu page, choose clear cache.

Doing a file verify thru Steam will erase any sounds or other mods you have done, but sounds like TS is already messed up.

Verify cache should fix any problems with the package manager files (actually, I would guess it's all contained in the one Utilties.exe file). Does the Utilities screen run? Or is it just the Package Manager tab/screen isn't accessible? In your Railworks folder is a folder named PackageInfo... anything listed in there should appear in the list in Package Mgr screen. If something in that folder is messed up, you could try moving everything out of that folder temporarily. Of course, if PM does run then nothing will be shown in the list until you install something.

If your PM isn't working, then what do you mean by "...rwp files are unreadable"? Unreadable with what?? Are you trying to open them with a zip program?

Do you have TS 2014 on a separate drive or partition?
If so, you may have to open the sim manually from the Railworks application and let it fix the install. IE it will create new needed folders on the C: drive in places like program files and users, so that the os can find it. (assuming Steam still does that)
If that is the case, it will propt you to "repair your Steam installation" or something to that effect.

I've been opening rwp files with WinRAR and 7zip both on Win7 and Win8. Worked perfectly fine on both systems.

i am not talking about .ap files. My third party stuff which I downloaded is supposed to be in a .rwp file, but my computer doesn't recognize them (or something like that).

I'm not sure what you are saying. Are you trying to install one using the utility and it can't find it or are you trying to just open it?

Can you take a screenshot of the error as ("or something like that") does not help us much.

Also is it possible that RWP files are not associated correctly to be open with the package manager?

I found the problem. My shortcut to the package manager was not working. I had to go into the Railworks folder and create another shortcut. Works now. Thanks anyway.
