miata54 wrote:I unpacked my Donner Pass folder using RW Tools and found a radio.dav file for the Dash 9. Highlighting the file with either a left or right mouse click did nothing. I was hoping for a command selection where I could rename it. Any suggestions?

I used 7zip as provided by RW Tools and selected a folder using the top radio button selection, but none of the unpacked files appeared in that folder. Hope someone can help.

First of all, you have to extract the files from the .ap file. In RW-Tools, click on Files / Find all .ap files, then extract the ones you want using the buttons that show up under the list. Then you can browse using Windows Explorer and verify that the files were extracted.
Then you must REPLACE the EXTRACTED radio.dav files as I said before. Not delete them, not rename them.

Another technique would be to edit the sound proxyxml (or proxybin) files and remove the reference to radio.dav.

I like this approach but I fear these are also packed in the .ap method and I'm not that versed in how to accomplish this. Obviously RSC is trying to prevent altering of these files and in my case, having to listen to Dan is so annoying that I have lost interest in playing RW. I searched You Tube for a tutorial on how to use RW Tools to accomplish this, but none to be found. If anyone could help via Skype, I'd be very grateful. Just send me a PM.

Here is what you need to get rid of radio chatter.
In the attached zip file is a silent dav file and a batch file for replacing the radio sounds.
The batch file only replaces the radio for the DLC I have, you will have to add missing lines for your own DLC using my lines as a guide.
You don't need to unpack the .ap files.

Tell me if that works for you and then I'll upload it to the library.

**** EDIT:
Instructions for using this patch:
1- Download Radio.zip on your desktop.
2- Create a new folder on your desktop, name it "Chatter" for example.
3- Extract from Radio.zip the 2 files "Radiosilence.bat" and "Silence.dav" into your new "Chatter" folder.
Note: depending on your Windows options, you may or may not see the ".bat" and ".dav" extensions in the file names.
There are several ways to do that, here's an easy one: open Radio.zio, select the two files, right-click, "Copy", open the "Chatter" folder, right-click, "Paste".
4- In the "Chatter" folder, open "Radiosilence.bat" for editing: right-click on the file, "Edit"
5- Check the 5th line that says SET rw="C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks" and modify it if needed to suit your own Railworks installation (the part between the quotation marks).
6- Save the file and exit the editor
7- Double-click on "Radiosilence.bat" to execute the patch. It may ask you if the destination is a file or directory. You must type F for file.

Note: Obviously I have made the patch according to the DLC I have. I can't guess what other DLC you have and where the files are supposed to be. At step 5, you may want to edit the patch accoding to your own DLC.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Is anyone going to try this?
I wouldn't like to upload a defective fix to the library.

I can't try it cause I already have my radios muted.
To add more confusion.
I had renamed all my radio.dav files to radio.dat. I changed the extension. dav to dat.
Wait till you hear this.
After all the updates, I opened the ap files with 7-zip and deleted the radio.dav file. (7-zip allows you to do this without extracting anything). At this point there is no radio.dav to read. It's gone. Poof!
Note: Although this works for me, other results from other people may very. **!!2cents!!**

I'm wary of modifying the contents of .ap files.
They look like zip files but I haven't has a close look at their structure.
Remember, rwp files can also be opened with 7zip and yet they you can't modify them without breaking them.

Thanks Chacal. Sorry I took so long to implement your work. Other matters I have been involved with.

Your files did the job. Very easy to set up and execute. Dan is no where to be heard in any of the loco's in your file. Finally have a easy way to do away with him. Thanks.

I was listening to the Selkirk stream on CSX and "Dan Hernandez" came over reporting a faulty switch. I jumped in my seat. !*roll-laugh*!
