Switches throwing on their own, unprompted

Unread postby SooLineDave » Tue Jan 07, 2014 7:33 pm

Hello All!
I have been building my own route for the past couple years, and recently rebuilt all of the track with superelevation. I just got finished, and decided to run a train over the route to see how it works, and the facing point switches into the sidings throw to direct the train into the siding just as my train approaches the switchpoints. Because my track speed is 90mph, the train derails as it enters the siding.

I am not manually throwing the switches. I took another run and made sure that the switches are lined for the main, not the siding, before approaching them, both on the 2D map and in game. Sometimes the switches stay where they are supposed to, sometimes they don't. This is in a free roam scenario with no AI trains, using the Horseshoe Curve track rule, Fort Kent-Eagle Lake route template. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks in advance!

This is a new one - I haven't seen this myself, but will keep my eyes peeled for the issue.
Cheers!

Hi

This happens to me all too often. Hack - it sounds like the same issue as heading west through East Glacier when you get diverted through the siding.

It's a Dispatcher quirk, for want of a better phrase, and there's very little anyone can do about it. Sometimes you can almost figure it out as you'll end up on the shortest possible route between points A and B, but at other times it's just bizarre.

SooLineDave - I presume it's a through siding as I've not seen it before if you're being pathed into a dead end! The only thing I can think of that might help you out is if you change your siding to be Yard track and set your test train to be some kind of Passenger service so theoretically it won't be allowed to go into the siding.

But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."

I have it happen on Cajon Pass near Barstow Yard Gate 01, if I try to blow through there at high speed. If I stick to the 30mph speed limit it won't switch me to the crossovers. It's some kind of booby trap for speeders I think.

Doctor: "What seems to be the problem?"
Patient (raising right hand way above head): "It hurts when I do this."
Doctor: "Well, don't do that!"

Just a thought, but does it still do that even if you park something on the track where you don't want to go?

It seems it can be related to speed, but it also happens at legitimate line speeds too depending on the location. The issue seems to be less prevalent on US routes as they don't tend to offer quite the same opportunities for the dispatcher to mess up as some UK route do.

Just one of those !**duh*!! things.

Thank you all very much for the replies!!! Mrennie: I did as you recommended, and it worked! Hertsbob: very good idea. I’ll do that, remove the dummy trains, and see how it shakes out.
Thanks again, everyone! !*salute*!
