Union Pacific to Buy Norfolk Southern in $85 Billion Railroad Deal

The merger would create the United States’ first coast-to-coast rail network, spanning 50,000 miles and 43 states.

Because of this, speculation is that BNSF will try and buy CSX. Odds seem to slightly lean towards the UP-NS deal going through. But one thing is for certain….. a lot of scrutiny will happen in the meantime.

I saw on Facebook where someone suggest the UP/NS merger be named "Southern Pacific." Wouldn't that be a hoot!

Harry - I saw that also. I suspect though that Union Pacific will be surviving name with Norfolk Southern entering into the "heritage" fleet. Still, it's fun to imagine what a "Southern Pacific" paint scheme would look like.
