Washed Out Rails

This happened last year and I wanted to share it with the community. The first time we got about 2.1 inches of rain; the following week, we got about 2.8 inches of rain. First time it happened a train was coming into town and went into emergency and then they came out and fixed it. The second time they inspected the tracks before any trains came through. Far as I know, the tankers were filled as well.

I remember many years ago the exact same thing happened no too far from where I live. Severe rainstorms washed the ballast right out from under the tracks. They never fixed it though. I guess the line wasn't important enough to warrant the cost of the repairs. So the tracks just sat like that for several years and then they were finally torn up.

This was in Sioux Falls, SD off the Canton sub. I took all of them, even though the first time it was raining so I tried not to get my camera wet, didn't work that well.
