Fillmore & Western closing its doors

Unread postby CArailroader » Sat May 29, 2021 1:48 pm

Yesterday it was publicly announced that Fillmore and Western Railway in Southern California (about an hour north of Los Angeles) is ceasing operations on June 30th. The last scheduled train will run on June 30th. The tracks that they run on are owned by Ventura County and controlled by the Ventura County Transportation Commission. The Fillmore and Western lease is up and the new operator of the line has not yet been announced.

Well talking to those familiar with the matter, I believe there is a new owner. But that new owner has not made an official announcement on what they intend to do with it. I was told that the Ventura County Transportation Commission that owns the tracks has been gunning for it's closure for years and that pressure from Hollywood movie studios ultimately saved it some years ago. A lot of movies and TV train scenes have been filmed there over the years. It's one of their go to spots that is relatively close to the studios for train related stuff.
