Oh, I had to smile when I read that.
I think MD had made the mistake of running the train in the wrong half of Germany.
My girlfriend (a native of Leipzig) said the train restaurants of the DB would have been many times better than those of the DR, although at that time I was also afraid of a train restaurants of the DB (I am a Wessi). If MC had let the train restaurants run on the territory of the former GDR, it would still have been a considerable increase compared to before, and the prices would have fit better to the wage level in the East.
