USRA

Dick, When you get around to the USRA locomotives can you add Chesapeake and Ohio to the list of road names? I know they had some 2882's and used the heavy Mikes. Thanks

XDriver, would you give us a step-by-step guide to editing Dick Cowan's roadnames. I can edit Michael Stephan's roadnames using RW Tools and DXTBmp. However, when I try the exact same steps on Dick's files, I end up with a solid color panel and no alpha channel. The only real difference I can see is that Michael's files are DDS1 format and Dick's files are DDS3. I want to edit his tender files for the Cimarron & Pacific and would surely appreciate the help.

Well. I use RS Bin tool for conversion and then DXTBmp to send files to PSP for editing. Yes. Use DXT3 and you should have the alpha there to export. Is this enough help? You can also create an alpha in DXTBmp as well. Just open up an existing roadname file and see what you have. Should see the alpha in black an white. !*don-know!*

How do you get DXTBmp to save in DXT3 format? I don't see it in the "Save As" drop-down list. Yes, I do see the main image and the alpha channel as they should be. At that point, I export the main image to PSP and flood-fill it with the color I want my lettering to be. I save the edited image and select "Reload after Edit" from the Image menu. Working with the alpha channel goes exactly the same. When I'm finished, everything looks normal in DXTBmp. However, after I convert the DDS file back to TgPcX format, it shows up as a solid panel of the color I selected for my text. As far as I can tell, I'm using the latest version of DXTBmp.

Maybe your not seeing the save as type in the drop down?

XDriver, how do you get to the Export menu? Under "File" I have the option to Save or Save As, no Export. I assume this drop-down is a part of DXTBmp.

Just use "save as" and then choose "DDS texture", and the box that pops up will be the one he illustrated above.

Thanks for your patience guys. I did just as you said and the texture still save as a merged file with no alpha channel. It showed up in the graphics preview as a solid panel of my text color. Is it possible that I didn't load some element that DXTBmp needs to export a DDS file correctly as a DXT3 image? My DDS utilities work well with PSP for most other RW files but I have major problems trying to edit alpha channels in PSP. Any suggestions?
