GSC 53'6 Bulkhead Flatcars Available!

Unread postby GreatNortherner » Thu Apr 09, 2009 4:53 pm

Colleagues,

This is to announce that I have just finished a set of all new flatcar models for RailSim! Waiting for you is a set of GSC-built 53'6 flatcars, built for NP in the 1950s, equipped with 7' bulkheads. The cars come in a set of two paint schemes (NP and BN) together with six different loads. These cars' prototypes were built in large numbers in the 1940s and 50s, with or without bulkheads, some even modified to be used in early trailer-train or container services. Older models were usually 48' long and still had friction bearing trucks... these might be the next release!

The cars are payware, but don't cost much more than a burger. ($ 3,50) -- repaints will be allowed as long as they are distributed without the geometry/shape files. Please ask me though before releasing anything. :D

At the railroad I worked for we call them woodracks and they were usually loaded with pulpwood. Could you make a pulpwood load?*!greengrin!*

Technically, these are not woodracks as woodracks have a depressed center line to keep the pulpwood leaning in toward the center instead of falling off the cars.

Talk about falling off, that's a problem if you happen to be walking along the track booking car marks and numbers. You always had to be aware and look for log sticking out that could behead you as you did your work. Most people don't realize how dangerous it is to work with and around/in the rail yards.

Thanks! Glad you like the cars. :D

If you look at the car loads' texture file, there are already place holders for logs and/or pulpwood. In other words, yes, a pulpwood load is coming soon! I wasn't planning on doing one for the 53' car, at least not for the one with the small bulkheads, but you just might have made me change my mind. !*cheers*!

Anyhow, there will be at least two more versions of this car: taller bulkheads for the 53'6 car, and an older 48' car (which many, many railroads had in use) with friction bearing trucks and 10' bulkheads. And, of course, pulpwood load. *!!wink!!*

Cheers!
