Merger with TaD: Planned Changes to Add-ons

Unread postby GreatNortherner » Thu Jan 30, 2014 2:54 pm

Hi,

As requested after the earlier announcement of my merger with T&D, I have drawn up a more precise plan about the changes to my add-on packs. These are quite substantial, I am going to merge some of the smaller payware add-ons into single large ones and I'll be abandoning some of the older and smaller (or less successful) add-ons entirely.

Please read on for the details:
  • ATSF Freight Packs 1 and 2: will be merged into one add-on
  • BN Heritage Freight Packs: will only be available as merged add-on, seperate packs will be abandoned.
  • B&M Freight Pack: no changes
  • GSC Commonwealth Flatcars: add-on will be abandoned
  • Milwaukee Road Pack: no changes
  • Modern US Freight Packs: Basic Pack will be abandoned, no changes to Megapack
  • NP Late 19th Century Steam Pack: no changes
  • NP Early 20th Century Steam Pack: no changes
  • NYC Hopper Packs, Offset-Side and Ribside: add-ons will be abandoned
  • PRR BA/OD/PD Passenger Pack: no changes
  • TOFC Packs, East and West: add-ons will be abandoned
  • USRA Boxcars, East and West: add-ons will be abandoned

All add-on packs to be abandoned will be removed from my website at the end of February.

I am of course going to continue supporting all of my products, including the ones I'm going to withdraw from the shop. Also, if somebody wants to get an older add-on after I abandoned it they can always email me and we'll find a solution.

Please email me or post here if you have any comments or questions.

Cheers,
Michael

Would it be possible for the abandoned addons to be uploaded on here, on the RWA library? !*don-know!*

Thanks, the idea is tempting, but has the problem that it might anger those who paid for the cars. So yes, I might release the models (or some of them) as freeware, but it probably not in the near future. I have to give it some more thought too.

Cheers!

Well, in the past I paid for the Great Northern passenger cars and if you were to re-release them as freeware if they are one of the ones you plan to discontinue it would be just fine with me.

The main thing is is you would be again helping to support RWA and draw attention to it to keep it running.

Also, real soon I might see if I can build the 60's car hauler for use with my 60's cars, because I really need one of those, and would like to see one on RWA for use and enjoyment.

...Cheers...

Thanks for the update! I'm hoping to have a tax refund before the end of February so I should be able to grab the ones I was interested in before they're gone.

Have you thought about making the items you are going to abandon a (or part of a) donationware pack for RWA? This would help support RWA and wouldn't make some people who previously paid for them feel cheated. Just throwing out other ideas here...

I like the sound of that idea. Personally, I've gotten my money's worth (it's not like Michael's stuff was expensive to begin with!) long ago so I would not be offended if you decide to give them away.

Thanks for your replies. :D

Yes, I have thought of that, and when you get the RWA route that is currently under construction you'll find some of the cars included. And most of them have received shape and some also texture updates.

I've bought a lot of Michael's stuff. I wouldn't mind either option mentioned. Release abandoned products as freeware or as donationware. Both seem fine. It's not like I paid much for them given his reasonable prices, and it was worth paying just to support his continuing development.

I just checked the listing of available rolling stock that is now on the GAofR store website. I discovered I had indeed bought each and every one of the addon packs. I conclude I have derived more than my money's worth of enjoyment from my purchases. I agree with Toripony that I would not be offended if GreatNortherner decided to post all these discontinued rolling stock items as RWA donationware.
