Repaint oddity with caboose 24ft. NP

Unread postby QcRail » Fri Dec 27, 2019 11:27 am

In my attempt to repaint the 24ft NP caboose to a Columbia Valley Pacific, I came across the following strange result...

1rst. Let me present how I came to find the said result.
- Repainted the file NP24ft_parts01.TgPcDx in photoshop (a simple straight forward operation). I decided to paint each door yellow...
- Concerted NP24ft_parts01.dds to NP24ft_parts01.TgPcDx, NO problem
- fired-up the game to view the result; and...

- At one end the door is, as desired, yellow. At the other end the door is brown (why???) and not yellow as it is visible if you view the uploaded .TgPcDx

I have a possible reason, but I cannot be sure of my conclusion. Could it be a result of the initial texture mapping on the 3D-model? If so, only Stephan can confirm and
( if so, could you remap the caboose? !*hp*! )

Any other idea or solution are welcomed.

I believe you have to mirror the texture in the brown external side door.

Hi,

Let me begin by stating the obvious: Oops! !!bang!!

Your guess that this is a mapping error is very likely spot-on. This model dates back to the early days of Railworks and I did some things mapping- and modeling-wise back then that I'm not particularly proud of.

As to fixing that error: I'm not sure that I really want to spend any more time on that old model. My suggestion would be to use one of my newer models instead. The GN caboose pack, for example, comes with a wooden body rear cupola caboose which too is a proper steam era car and looks only slightly different from the NP caboose. And which shouldn't have such terrible mapping. *!!wink!!*

Cheers

Michael,

Thanks for your quick response and I understand your wanting to go elsewhere; it also gives me a positive feedback on my own awareness re. computer graphics and modeling.

I take your advise and will shift my attention on the GN caboose pack.

A bientot, Bernard !!howdy!!
