Reporting Forum Problems and Errors! Please Read!

If you are experiencing any problems with the forums, please post in this thread with as much detail as possible.
Posting in this thread, as opposed to sending me a PM or email, may help others to come forward or inspire others to add to the issue, or at least let folks know they're not the only ones experiencing the problem. The more folks that I'm aware of experiencing the same problem also helps to track it down, instead of me thinking the reporting person is the only one, which could lead me off in another direction in trying to solve the problem.

If you get an error message of any kind, the exact and full message is needed to help track down the problem.
This can be done by typing the error message, copying the error message and pasting it into a text file, or grabbing a screenshot of it.

If you do not get an error message, please explain - in detail - what you were doing and the problem that arose, again - with as much detail as possible.

Telling me there's a problem, or you can't make a post is about the same thing as not saying anything. *!!wink!!*

*!!thnx!!* !*salute*!

You do that anyways, LOL. (you know I'm just kidding) !**duh*!!

Not having any issues here, could it be an IE issue? I have several friends that have had IE crash on them frequently of late. I'm running the newest Firefox (which also just did an update a day or so ago)

Actually, what inspired me to start this thread was an email I got from a member about not being able to attach an image to a post. The error he got was this:

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

MySQL server has gone away [2006]

SQL

SELECT dnsbl_id, dnsbl_fqdn, dnsbl_lookup, dnsbl_weight FROM iatb_dnsbl WHERE dnsbl_weight > '0' AND dnsbl_register =0' ORDER BY dnsbl_weight DESC, left_id ASC

BACKTRACE

FILE: includes/db/mysqli.php
LINE: 163
CALL: dbal->sql_error()

FILE: includes/session.php
LINE: 1277
CALL: dbal_mysqli->sql_query()

FILE: posting.php
LINE: 992
CALL: session->check_dnsbl()

I'm still trying to track down the cause. I made a couple of edits in the ACP and I'm waiting to hear back from him.

If anyone is getting this same error, please let me know, but do try to copy the error text so I can see if it's exactly the same error. Errors like this can say slightly different things which can indicate a different issue.

BTW Chris! I don't believe this is an IE, or any browser, issue, although I'm not 100% certain of that yet. I think it has to do with one of the mods I have installed, but kind of indirectly.

In case I didn't make this clear I was just at the preview stage not even to submit when this occurred. More posts over at the screen shot thread. You might want to move them here.

Is that little blue guy from the saying "Blessed are they who run in circles for they shall be called big wheels."?

Yeah, I saw that post in the screen shot thread. Posted a screen shot myself to test it out. SQL is usually a server error, as far as I know anyways. Could also be a Windows error. Every one here should make sure Windows is up to date, and run anti virus and anti spyware, plus I recommend running "Ccleaner"

Sorry to get off topic, Ed. But it could help with those having problems. !!*ok*!!

OK! Here's another error from the same member, but this has to do with using BBCode.

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

MySQL server has gone away [2006]

SQL

SELECT bbcode_id, bbcode_tag, bbcode_helpline FROM iatb_bbcodes WHERE display_on_posting = 1 ORDER BY bbcode_tag

BACKTRACE

FILE: includes/db/mysqli.php
LINE: 163
CALL: dbal->sql_error()

FILE: includes/functions_display.php
LINE: 910
CALL: dbal_mysqli->sql_query()

FILE: posting.php
LINE: 1481
CALL: display_custom_bbcodes()

This is sounding more and more like something having to do with your Internet connection, or your ISP, but I won't know more unless someone else reports the same errors.

It does seem to be an SQL error, but if it were, it would be affecting everyone.

Buzz, what browser are you using?

Yep! I guess that would be me, running in circles. !**duh*!! !*roll-laugh*!

I wonder if it's ISP throttling?

Century Link. I have had plenty of issues with them, however had not had anything similar to this. Let me try try this thru another ISP. I can use go GoToMy Pc to do that. Give me a few.

Actually Buzz, using GoToMyPC is still using your ISP. You have to go through your ISP to go to any site on the Internet, even if your trying to access another computer, you still have to go through your ISP.

Yes that's true however my connection to Railworks America is now through my computer at work so the message is being sent from that computer which is attached to Foxvalley.net. I still get the above error. I wonder if it has something to do with Fileden where these pictures reside. I think I'm getting a headache. **!!bang!!**

I don't think it's Fileden because the error you're getting now has nothing to do with images. It's an error when trying to use the BBCode, based on your Internet connection trying to access the database (MySQL).

Even though you're using your work computer by connecting to it through GoToMyPC, you're still accessing GoToMyPC, and your work computer through your ISP, before you get to your work computer.

What Operating System are you using?

What browser are you using?
