The Amtrak GE Dash8-32BWH for free is the prize for this photo contest.



It will run for one week and the subject of the picture must be Amtrak. As usual only one photo may be presented and no Photoshopping in this one. The entries will be judged on the title, the composition and the overall artistic use of TS2016 for the picture. Any route is fine as long as Amtrak is used. Go to it folks!


Nine or ten free locomotives will be awarded as well as the cars included in the pack.

The weather isn't so nice today, as a big storm begins to hit the California coastline. Being on switcher duty in my GP40PH-3, I was forced to go into a siding to let the southwest chief attempt to get out of the area ASAP to stay on schedule. That also delayed the departure of the exhibit train two surfliners.

An ex-F40PH "cabbage" car kicks up a dusting of snow as it leads an Amtrak Downeaster across the Fore River bridge in Portland, ME. Also seen is a PanAm local job awaiting to return to Rigby yard.

Here's Chicago in the 1970's. It's a foggy Winter afternoon and Amtrak is still relatively young, so it's not uncommon to see an influx of rolling stock from other railroads being used. ALCo S2 7110 is shoving a couple cars around to get repainted while an Amtrak train with some acquired power approaches Union Station and passes a departing Super Chief.

March 8th, 1989. It is a busy (And Wet) day at New Haven Union Station. In the foreground are two Boston Shuttle Trains with Amtrak's Classic F40PH's. In the background, a Amtrak regional from New York is switching out power from a AEM-7 to two F40PH's for the trip to Boston.

"Green Mountain Guest"

Certainly an unusual guest in the Green Mountains of Vermont, a tired ex-New Haven Amtrak FL9 leads a special railfan excursion over the Central Vermont's Champlain Division in June of 1990. Upon arriving at Waterton, VT, the passengers will disembark and board the wooden coaches of the Western Vermont Railroad for a sunny summer excursion over that shortline.
