With the storm getting worse by the minute, UP #844 leads the Cheyenne-bound express up the grade.

In the late hours of night, Great Northern's lesser known streamliner, the Western Star glides to a halt in Monroe WA.

On this early morning of March 1st 1957, an unexpected snow storm slows down the Lake Cities on the last leg of its thousand-mile journey from Chicago to Hoboken terminal in New Jersey.

A Metra commuter train, bound Westward for Aurora, leaves Chicago Union Station in the wee hours of the morning. There was just barely enough light to capture the photograph, and the skyline of downtown Chicago is still well-lit in the background in preparation for a busy day of work. Indeed, the station itself will soon be filled with commuters on the way to and from Chicago!

It's Covered Wagon territory late in the year in 1990 and we see an Empire Service train that has recently departed Grand Central and two Metro North commuter trains heading south towards Grand Central Terminal. Amtrak FL-9 488 has just crossed the Harlem River (the Park Avenue Draw Bridge is barely visible in the backround) and is getting ready to take the wye at Mott Haven and from there the train will travel all the way to Albany, NY. Amtrak's time serving Grand Central is short lived with The West Side Line revamp almost complete. 1991 will mark the end of Grand Central service and all Amtrak Trains will now terminate at Penn Station. If you look hard enough in the distance, one can see the antenna of the Empire State Building.

Centipede in Altoona
Altoona Centipede.jpg

One of PRR's Baldwin Centipedes is about to depart Altoona, PA. The crew is having a small chat and taking a rest outside of the train. Some families are saying their last goodbyes and waving, and some have arrived just in time to catch this train. Some others are here just to watch it leave.
Also, it looks like Al's truck just got a flat tire while picking up the mail! He doesn't look too happy about that...

Leaving Everett

On a misty spring morning, the Empire Builder heads off on the last stretch of it's 2205 mile journey. Meanwhile, a BNSF local service is just starting out on it's Eastbound run to Gold Bar.
