Broken consist problem... again..

Unread postby PamBrooker » Fri May 28, 2010 10:17 pm

So i've reached a point in building my scenery where i'm setting up the rail yard. As of the moment, its the only place on my route where there are any engines cars or well, almost anything else besides trees.. But now, i'm getting this broken consist error, immediately after editing. I removed everything i added since the last save 9 offices, homes, sounds etc ) and now i'm getting this b4roken consist error and have no clue where its coming from.. Can anyone give me a clue?? I've already applied the patch for it, so i shouldnt be seeing it, and i'm totally lost at this point..
Thanks
Pam

Pam
A hunch here, as it seems to relate to a broken consist error problem... *!question!*
If it's definitely the only place where you have some sort of consists, try splitting them all apart and re-coupling all that is in the area. ( especially over switches / points )
If you have Mike Simpson's RW_Tools I think he has an option now ( not 100% sure ) that can remove broken consists.

Two things I would add to Gordon's excellent post. First, and this is one route builder talking with another, MSTS taught us its better to do one thing at a time. Or that's what it taught me. So I lay track, then scenery and then scenarios. The second and more pertinent tip is when working with scenarios, I check the radial which grabs the whole consist. It gets a little tedious but that problem with Broken Consists seems easier to create than we realize when placing rollingstock without the whole consist thing on.

Your scenario reports Broken Consists. The temptation would be to delete them. This is not neccessary now because they are easy to fix.

Make a note of the Lat Long co-ordinates for each broken consist then go into edit mode.
Type the co-ordinates into the GPS drop down panel at the top of the screen and click the little white triangle.
When all the scenery has loaded (give it a short while), examine the couplings between the wagons.
If they look like the screenshot below, then you have identified the broken consist.

Expand your view so that you can see the entire consist and where it resides on the track.
IMPORTANT. You must have Consist Select enabled. This is circled in light blue on the screenshot below.
Click on roughly the centre wagon of the consist so that the entire consist highlights in red.
Pick up the consist and place it back on the track where it was before.
Examine the couplings. If they now look like the screenshot below, then you have fixed the broken consist.

Press F2 to save the scenario.
Carry out this process for each of the broken consists you noted earlier.
Exit edit mode back into play mode by clicking the orange triangle.
Oh no! It still says you have broken consists!
Don't worry. This time, hit exit. When you re-open the scenario, it will be fixed

Thanks guys.. Awesome instruction all around.. This thread is definately going in my solutions folder.. The game itself ended up fixing it though. I was thinking that, if there are broken consists with the default marker, i'll simply add a free roam marker and work from the free roam scenario. Great idea right?? Meh.. it deleted every single thing with wheels on it. ::sigh:: Now to go beat myself up with an sw-1200 and figure out why IT doesnt want to work.. Gods i hate programming.. ::LOL::..

If your consist sits on a border of a turtable or loading point it will break a consist. Only you wont know until you load the Scenario from the main menu.
