Vintage Lumber Mill for Railworks.

Unread postby jpetersjr » Wed May 18, 2011 2:41 pm

Here's a new scenery item I'm building for Railworks.

A vintage style lumber mill.

It will add a lumber mill for the lumber mill sound in the Railworks sound selection.

J.P. I am tinkering around in SketchUp trying to model a few SP style stations for my route. I am a complete beginner. Could you give a step-by-step on how someone would export from SketchUp to Blender to RW, and some points to look out for?

Thanks

Never seen that style of lumber mill before. is this one going to have a "WigWam" woodchip burner? almost all of those burners are abandoned nowadays, but 20+ years ago they were used.

"PapaXpress" to export from sketchup to blender you will have to first export it as a dae file. From 'File' scroll down to 'Export', select where it says 'Callada File', which is 'dae'. Then from there you can import it into blender by selecting from file import Callada and find where you placed your dae file. I'd advise you create a folder from on your desktop and find it there.

And to then put it into the sim there is a asset at uktrainsim that I believe you need in order to export it as a xml file from there. I don't know yet though because still yet to get it and actually export from it.

"thecanadianrail" I'm not sure what kind of lumber mill this is exactly. I'm building it from a HO scale model I have. And I don't know what, or if anything could be missing on mine. However, on the second and forth floor there will be a chimney, I can tell where there was one on the model at some point.

Alright, I've finished the main shape. Now all I have to do is texture it in blender and finish it up.

I built it in sketchup, all the parts are 3d.

.....Alright, I got my model into blender.

How do you import a bmp texture and texture the model in blender, Blender is very new to me, now I must figure out how to use it.

Here's a picture of the model in Blender.

By the way, this project is dead.

When I exported it from sketchup and tried to import it into 3D Crafter a lot of the faces had mysteriously been deleted which cannot be fixed without trouble, trouble, and more trouble.

So I have tossed the item out to the trash.

At least for now my vintage apartments are coming out correctly.

Maybe at some point I'll build a new lumber mill, just maybe.
