New to Blender

I decided to give Blender another go a few days ago after somebody pointed out some strange tutorials on 'Youtube'.

Anyhow, I have been trying to build a house tonight. But I seem to be having trouble with bringing two separate faces together to form a triangular rooftop.

Here's an image that confirms where I am at.

The troublesome pieces are shown in the attached image at the top of the semi triangular portion. It is a little crooked I'll admit, but I want to place in line with each other so that I can finish off what I should have theoretically completed over 4 hours ago. None of the functions such as sizing, locking the axis have been of any help. The house itself is more than likely pre 1950.

Blender is fantastic.
Their new 2.8 will be an interesting piece of softwares for small developers like myself for TSW.
I have been watching this playlist

May be you can have a look which can help to solve the problem.

You need to bring vertices together and merge them.
Then your faces will be joined.

That's the intention, but when I move them, it's like they have an allergic reaction and retract back to a similar position to what's shown.

Hence why I asked what the secret method is. I don't intend for this to sound rude, but it's puzzling for a newbie.

BTW, thanks for that link TheRailWorkshop. If they're less annoying than those made by Blender Guru (thinking of his in between gestures), then they might be worth looking at.

Yes his gestures are annoying.
I had also watched him when I started leaning Blender.

After several hours, I have managed to get the building model more or less completed, but for the last 45 or so minutes, I have been searching the internet looking for a way to bring up the 'mapping' tab on the right hand side of the interface.

Several other users have had trouble with this, but does it actually exist in version 2.79, or am I on a wild goose chase in regards to applying textures? It seems to be extremely tedious. And no, I am not referring to 'image mapping'.

I did use a short cut to perform the UV unwrapping, so that should be more or less done with.
