Scaling scenery objects for usage in children

Unread postby jalsina » Fri Apr 01, 2016 10:47 am

I have a couple questions for knowledgeable scenery designers:

If there is a scenery object from some DLC and I scale it to shape it as I need it:
1- Is it possible to save the newly scaled object under a different name?
2- If the answer to 1 is yes, what is being saved, a new GeoPcDx or just the data for the scaling (with same Geo info)?

My intention would be using the new object in a child for rolling stock, what should I take into consideration, addressing to a newly formed object or take the scaling data to edit the child positioning matrix. Is it possible using that scale data from the object after scaling?

If you mean scale the object in the world editor, then no, you are just modifying the scale information aboutthe object in the route.
What you want is to find the geopcdx file for your object, make a copy of this file, open it with RW-Tools and change the scale in the matrix for the main object.

Thanks Chacal for your answer. I understand I can´t save the scaled object under a different name.
When looking at the object info (the upper right inset) there is an empty box under the path-name (at the bottom of the inset), that suggests having some type of usage to save it.

Last night I was able to take the scale information and pass it to the child matrix (changing the scale diagonal values to those in the 3rd row of the inset) and it worked very nicely.
An example was that white vessel that in my previous screenshots it was just an scenery object placed over a flatcar. In this one it is a child of the flatcar:

Same with the elevated loco supports:

The objects at the side (tower structure and small tank) are only scenery placed over the flatcars.
Modifying the GeoPcDx is out of question as I would like to distribute some of this stuff.
And I am not sure I would be able to find the scale values since in something complex as a loco, the Geo is quite complex. I haven´t been able so far to find the lighting nodes for the SH SD70M (in the flatcars thread PapaXpress suggested to deal with them using lua).
