An Asset Block LOD Problem

Unread postby savv_nz » Sat Dec 13, 2014 1:53 am

Hi All,
I am wondering if this is a sim bug or just something I am doing wrong - so first up, a picture.

Image

In the image the trees on the left have been manually placed, and are behaving as expected - the LOD is changing at 75m out to a simple quad tree. The trees on the right however are placed within an 'Asset Block' for placing the bulk assets - as you can see these trees fail to change LOD at the same time as the manully placed versions and then simply vanish when you move slightly further away (probably because the camera is no longer within the LOD range).

What is interesting is if I click 'Edit Placement' in the block asset flyout the LOD model displays correctly.

As these trees are for a route project that is around 90% forest fixing the Asset Block problem is a must - if it is at all possible.

Thanks in advance for any advise you may have :)
Cheers,

Stefan van Vliet

Are these objects of your own? If so, what are the model's LOD levels?

They are indeed my own.
LOD levels are set at 75m, and then 250m, then 1500m

Not certain, but perhaps the asset block's center, which itself may be outside the 1500m mark, has some effect.

It could be that, but in the example above the centre of the block is on the same line as the centre of the trees on the left - plus there is no LOD changeover, they are simply there at the highest LOD and then vanish without any intermediate steps.

Check carefully for any typo in the object group name.
Make sure you follow the dev docs (brackets, spaces, etc).

Just checked them all again, but as indicated in the picture I posted above the exact same tree if placed individually works as it should.
Its only when being used in an asset block that it stops displaying LODs entirely. I have made a few more trees and can confirm they are all having the same problem - only the first LOD is displaying when used in an asset block, unless you click 'Edit Positions' in which case the LOD's start working until you finish editing when they promptly disappear again.

Sounds as though you may have discovered a new bug, Stefan. Have you tried to add other objects, such as buildings, cars, etc. to see if the LODs fail to load unless moved?
Cheers!

It took me a while to find something else with a LOD change that enabled me to still be close enough to the object to see if it had actually changed...

Image

These are the IOW silver birch trees, seems they also suffer from vanishing when they are in an asset block and they are meant to change LOD - the single tree at the image top is the same item just manually placed. I shall go email DTG I think...
