Do the turntable and roundhouse need to be freeware?

I'll look over my freeware routes.

Otherwise there is the Cheyenne roundhouse, and perhaps some from the Horseshoe Curve?

How about the turntable from Great Northerner's BN Big Horn Subdivision? It has a turntable that will handle the largest loco's if I recall.

Thanks, Buzz, but I didn't find a turntable in that package... must of used one of the same ones we have. I *did* find some other things I didn't have, though, like some pieces to fix the breaks in the telegraph wire lofts and a couple of other things I've lost along the way.

Bad drugs or something. You're right that is the stock one. Here you go. I knew I had seen it somewhere.

HA... it CAN be done! !*YAAA*! The trains fit the tracks that fit the house! The BB Turntable with the GN Roundhouse Kit:

Hinton Roundhouse.jpg

The trick is to connect the track only to every other stall. In the stalls between place "false" tracks with no buffer on the end for looks. It's real track so you can park stock on it. And with the TT derailment hazard, having half the tracks can be a good thing when you have this many stalls.

I'm sure someone has already done this, but I'm still feeling victorious, lol.

When turning a locomotive on the Big Boy Turntable, be sure to have the locomotive centered on the table. Otherwise the table's rotation speed may cause a derailment.

There is also a little smaller 30 meter turntable available at TrainSim.com

KRS 30 Meter Diameter Turntable. A larger diameter turntable that should be large enough for your larger diesels. By Richard Ham.

Additionally, you can edit a turntable bin file to specify the number of exits, so as to align with your roundhouse tracks. Just be sure to include the renamed, revised turntable in your route assets and include a copy of the original readme file.

I had no idea that was possible... and so easy! I'm not going back to change this Hinton build but when I get to Clifton Forge I'm going to try this. Thanks, Dick!

!*drool*! So atmospheric. Big Turntable needed for the artics on the coal traffic. Great to see V5 progressing...

!*cheers*!

First, I love version 4.5, and can’t wait for version 5.0.
I have been a fan of the C&O since ever. As I lived in Michigan for 30 years I never had a chance to scout the line, but looked at many books. I did build a loose model RR based on the C&O.
I would like to make a correction to steam power terminology if I may. The 2-8-8-2 was a Class H-7, and termed the Chesapeake. It had a Cyl. Horsepower of 4092. It’s successor was the Allegheny, Class H-8, 2-6-6-6. That, and was reportedly the most powerful steam locomotive East of the Mississippi. The Cyl. Horsepower of the H-8 was 4734. There is one H-8 on display at the Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI.
A book titled “C&O Power” (out of print), covering C&O locos from 1900-1965, is available on Amazon.com (Great photos and Specs.). If anyone could model some of these locos it would be great.

Interesting that you hardly ever hear anyone talk about the H-7; H-8 took all the fame. I don't anticipate seeing these type machines built for Train Simulator any time soon but then I've been surprised more than once lately.

I read an interesting thread recently that reported that steam engines sell better to model RR hobbyist's than they do to computer sim/game players... no clear reason could be identified. Personally, I would guess it's the age and locale of today's market audience. In any case, it reduces the likelihood that anyone is going to spend one to two years building an H-8 unless it's a project of passion.

Glad you enjoyed the Alleghany. I'll keep working to get another one put together soon.

Tori,
I set this pic up just for you and ended up winning Mikes Connie with it in a screenshot competition. In case you never saw it. !*salute*!

I did see that, but didn't know about the contest. It's a great shot; the setup is sooo excellent and I think it's the best one, too. !!*ok*!!

(I've been wondering if "1st Place" meant it won something or if that was just a slot in the slideshow)
