Good Eats

Diner bell is about to chime...

I had started this a while ago and only recently dusted it off to see how it looked in RW3:

Not too shabby, if I do say so. Needs some texture clean-up and bits, but it's good to be modeling rollingstock again. :D

Awesome work Hack!!! !!*ok*!! I love how good the interior looks! Are you doing more Pullmans? And maybe if you want you could even do modernized Amtrak cars? Gosh, there's so many possibilities once we have some great cars like these. Keep it up! *!greengrin!*

i am assuming you are going more towards doing a complete Super Chief set? just my assumptions since you already did the F7's for the train and the other name trains for Santa Fe were either not as popular or were BI-Level such as the EL Capitan.....either way, i want it! !*drool*!

This looks good. Excellent even, almost like "fine scale" with those neat rivet heads.

Santa Fe's Super Chief was an all Pullman train in it's heyday, wasn't it? Baggage, sleepers, diners and observation cars only.

Then perhaps once you have the basic Budd car shape "extruded", you could also do a few different coaches by punching out windows in other locations.
That way we can also model some lesser trains or trains that only used day cars to run over Cajon Pass and other Santa Fe routes.

If your Super Chief models are well accepted, I wouldn't mind an El Capitan high level train to run over the Pass either.

I think with the Super Chief and the El Capitan we'll have all of Santa Fe's premier passenger trains covered, won't we?

They even ran as a combined train during the last years of Santa Fe's passenger service and during the first years of Amtrak.

Oh, that's lovely. And there's a definite lack of US coaching stock still.

Flanges look a bit model-wheel, can't complain about anything else...

They look dull in the shot, but are really nice and shiny. However, I still need to render a set of normals for these, which should make the wheels stand out from any angle.

Ah they're plenty shiny, the flanges are just a bit too deep ( and/or the rims don't sit on the rail, hard to see ). Can't find a drawing of those trucks atm ( you'd think there'd be some all over the place ) but I found these trucks, which apart from maybe being useful for someone have a useful front/back of wheel size comparison.

That's it though, no other complaints!

I checked and the wheels do sit about an inch off the rails. I'll have to fix that, thanks.

Hi all. This is my first post on the forum, so I want to say a Hello to all. For the author of those cars, wow man, they look awesome, can i ask about the poly count, and nice Baked textures. The interior is superb too. Keep up the good work

Greetings

Thanks for the compliments. The poly count is way higher than I would have liked - too embarrassed to mention - most of the polys went to the bogie's first LOD, where I hope to reduce the count by using normals.
Cheers!
