Coming soon to RailWorks 2 Train Simulator! The Northeast Corridor Expansion Pack will be a recreation of the line from New York Penn Station through to 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, part of the busiest railroad passenger line in the US. With overhead electrification now providing power for both low-speed and high-speed passenger services, the NEC runs along the route of historic railroad lines dating back to the 19th Century and the days of steam. Currently, efficient electric locomotives serve the cities along this busy route including New York City, Philadelphia, Washington and Boston. The Northeast Corridor Expansion Pack is coming to RailWorks soon.

Yeah, I think so. But no wonder you forgot, they haven't posted anything about the route since the first announcement.
I hope we see some pics soon.

I have a feeling this route will be released during the summer and not spring. Its just so much work. New everything. Tracks, Stations, Structures, Vegatation, etc. It takes alot of time to do.

I'm trying to lower my expectations. Being I grew up with this stretch of the NEC I know it far too well. From the filth in Philly and Trenton to the semi nice empty sections, abandoned industry etc. I'm used to looking out the window and seeing trash, a stolen huffy and a variety of other junk track side. I know all those finer details won't be represented and only really so much one can model and represent.

I guess lowering your expectations is a great way to be even more satisfied when the route actually is done correctly with good precision. All I know is if the route comes out good or even great i will be on the extension project, if not I will restart my NEC route and just savage what was created.

But I'm hoping I won't have to to do all that. RSC has a great rep for creating high quality stuff, so that is something good to look forward too.

Vegetation? I could've sworn Northeastern American vegetation is very similar to British vegetation. I've never been to England, but the trees and bushes in the photos I've seen of England look very similar to the scenery in the Northeastern United States. Thankfully, we do have a plethora of default vegetation where you could make any environment you want (desert, beaches, urban, suburban, mountainous, etc)

I understand completely that some new buildings would have to be made. Although luckily, Pennsylvania (even in the greater Philly area) does have some German-style architexture, and we do have some pieces of default German-style buildings for Railworks 2. But I can't imagine how the New York City skyline or Philadelphia skyline would be created with just default scenery objects.

On the bright side, I'm excited to get this expansion pack. It'll probably be my favorite one of all time!!!!!

It's gonna be interesting to see what they do with Penn Station. They did such a wonderful job modeling Edinborogh to Glascow (sorry, my spelling isn't the best). Looking forward to more North American goodness!

E-G is great, but it's a product by Thompson Interactive (also did the GARL). So unless Thompson Interactive helps RS.com with the NEC, we won't get this station detail.
Don't take me wrong, RS.com also makes good stuff, but not as good models as Tompson Interactive.

New York's Penn Station is probably the easiest big station to model. It's nothing but an underground concrete coffin (only portion that is open to the sky is about a block long and not even part of the main station). The track work leading into it will be the hardest problem. Throw a low-poly background NYC skyline you see while running though the New Jersey Meadowlands and before you enter the tunnels on the New Jersey side and your done. Now if RSC would have chosen to do the NEC pre-1960's then Penn Station would be a little harder to model.

With that said, I'm looking forward to this route and waiting to see how it develops.
