Some progress on the trucks - getting the basic shape first, then will make the varations for each side with speedo sensors etc.

Yes the nose and walk ways are different. I was speaking from a modeling perspective. I found a clever way to make these variations by swapping out components.

All the U25s I've seen with single front windows have had flat-top noses ( even though they're long ), it's a bit confusing. The U30 seems to have a different arrangement of equipment boxes on the walkways ( other than the stubby nose ), that's pretty much all I've noticed so far.

Compare these drawing, the Universal series went through many phases and the railroads also rebuilt and altered them over their service lifes. The carbody was left intact usually, unless a wrecked unit was rebuilt/restored.

Notice the front and rear end of the hoods slightly slope on the U25 while the rear end is vertical on later models.
I cannot remember my old Athearn H0 models that well but the drawing confirm that the "pug" nose front also had a slight slope.
I don't seem to be able to find drawing of hight short hood models straight away, but I presume their ends were vertical.

However all these drawings have trucks which don't match pretty much any photo you care to pick up, so I'm not terribly confident in all the other little details. Gross things like body shape should be ok, I'd imagine.

So a Phase 1 U25B had sloping high hood ends at both front and rear we can conclude.

About those trucks, they are supposed to be AAR type B trucks, a standardized design.
I don't know if that design went through many variation during its lifespan.
There is a difference in wheelbase and thus overall length according to the traction motors fitted.

I don't know wether the Oovee model will be "generic" modeled from a book or drawing or wether it will be a copy of some museum piece Oovee measured themselves.

There a still many variations in accessories the railroads ordered, one Oovee model surely cannot cover all of these.

Been looking at as many photos as I can find, there don't actually appear to be *that* many differences. Obvious one is lights ( ignoring d-brakes/short hood shape/cab window ) and ploughs, what else? seems to be some extra equipment boxes on the walkway of a few, I have no idea what they're for.

The trucks in that drawing have cutaway bits on the outermost frame ( where it meets the axleboxes ), only seen that on one u25 so far... did wonder if they were old trucks off another make.

Yes, you are right. The Universal series all looked remarkably plain and alike in the drawings I studied. Extra boxes on the walkways usually had to do with ATC equipment, but then you must also see the magnets/coils/pickups or whatever they are called mounted on the lead axle.

Trucks were generally swapped around a lot, there obviously must have been U-boats on traded in Alco,BLW,F-M trucks. I believe there even are some on EMD's Blomberg trucks as these first models of 2-nd generation units replaced the first generation of FT's, F3's, FA's, RS's etc and railroads saved money by having the trucks re-used.

Where did you get the information for the inside of the trucks (the parts not seen from outside)?
I've been looking for that info for weeks.
