Yeah, the GN had interesting liveries even before they came up with the Empire Builder paint scheme (which in my opinion, is the best looking railroad livery anyone has ever invented, though I count the McGinnis liveries of the NH and B&M and also the current Czech Railway's Najbrt livery as close second places. **!!bow!!** ).

Anyway... the impressive S-2 is not allowed to go through the new tunnel (the ventilation system was only installed after the end of electrification), so the main focus of the route will be on the mighty Y-1's.

I didn't know you can't run steam trains through the tunnel; I do it all the time!

There are two Scenics (and two Leavenworths) on this route!

Truly Scenic.jpg

This is the original Scenic station with its unique sloped-wall design. The overpass in the background is the new line to the new tunnel, still under construction, and to the right of it is the Scenic Hot Springs resort hotel. From here the lower tracks converge to a single line then cross the Tye River and begin the long ascent to the town of Tye and the original tunnel.

Steam Qs: No, No.

So, with the S-2’s as the primary passenger loco, for the time period in question, was the P-2 Mountains’ the primary freight loco, or were the articulated’s still in favor?

According to Lindsay Korst's wonderful GNGoat website, the Mountains remained in service on secondary passenger trains. They probably would have had the same problem with freights as the Northerns, being set up for speed rather than slow speed pulling power. Also, don't forget that the GN operated numerous passenger trains all over its network, though based on pictures I've found they often seem to have used their older fleet of Pacifics for the secondary/branch line passenger operations.

This will be a "Must have"! Will it include any other steam power other than the S-2? Thanks!

From the original post "Following the route's release, additional freeware scenario content will be released that uses extra freeware GN equipment such as Rick's Alco RS-1 or my EMDs -- and also a completely new GN S-class 4-8-4 locomotive that will be released as freeware around the route's launch."

So no but if you search "Great Northern" in the file library you will see a lot of GN steam, including a glacier green 2-10-2 that I have done. I plan to do another GN 2-10-2 but only the red roof with no green boiler.

Sounds GREAT! I would love to see the "Bessemer" 2-10-2 in GN...… a very close representation!

Thanks!

The Great Northern steam fleet is ready to work as soon as this lovely route is released.
