Because someone in RSC wanted to make a GG1? ( and other than the pseudo-Euro NEC electrics it's about the only one we know over here! ).

What was that fat square Amtrak electric on 6 wheeled trucks - I think Bill posted a pic of one recently. I vaguely knew that one also before I started being interested in this US stuff that RW came with.

Same for me the other way around. I'm getting to the point where I can tell the diff between a Class 37 and a Class 20 for instance. :-)

That would be a E60. Built by GE Transportation Systems.

I would have liked to see a SD7/9.

At least they're totally different shapes! from the same company too. Deltic looks sort-of like a 37 ( but makes a totally different racket ) and the 50 looks nothing like any of them, and they're all the same company as well. Meanwhile we have to learn to tell all these nearby models apart :p ( Dash-8 to ES44... don't ask me which one is which by looking ). I can't tell what half our current trains are either.

E60, that was it. Looks like it was built out of scrapped warships.

They looked like battleships when they had "Ghetto Grills" (metal screens over the cab windows to protect from bricks people were throwing off overpasses in the 70's) applied:

E60s have always looked rather European to me, so do most of Amtrak's units. Not too much of a fan of "boxy" locomotives, I'm more a fan of the Geeps, early Alcos and a few GEs.

Yeah, I saw that one out in the yard. In part it needs restoration, but there isn't any space for it indoors. I don't know how much historic interest there is in something like an E60.

I dunno, I've had mixed feelings about this upcoming add-on as well. But you have to admit- these sure as heck look better than the original (Britkits) models:

Or at least that's my opinion. I'm just glad that RSC has continued to make models and improvements to Railworks, rather than just abandoning it (as we saw with the original msts) or simply re-boxing the program and marketing it as something completely revolutionary (as we saw with Trainz.) And so long as they're high-quality, these add-ons can hardly hurt our hobby, can they? RSC will undoubtedly see my support with this add-on.

Well, that's just my **!!2cents!!**

Cheers,

I just don't see why theirs is so much compared to the Britkits one, I see it's more detailed, but I'm not that much about detail. If it came with a special scenario for the NEC that made the NEC look like it did when GG1s were in use, I can see $20+, but otherwise I'll just stay with my Britkits one that includes a E unit and several different coaches instead of the same HSC one.

I'd been avoiding RSC's GG1 precisely because, as someone else has already mentioned, I didn't want to buy the Northeast Corridor route as well. This wasn't just a money issue: I don't care for passenger scenarios. Then came the 50% off sale, and I folded. I'm no better with passenger scenarios for having run a couple on this route, but running at 120 mph is fun.

Let me get back to the GG1, though. Is there any way to access the left-seat cab view? Pressing the left arrow key just takes me into the area behind the engineer's seat, where I can see the signal ahead display, but not the view down the tracks. Then there's the "Bonus GG1" scenario that at least involves driving a freight train, but since it's just a l-o-n-g run, it's a passenger scenario without station stops. At the end of the run, the driver is required to stop on an uphill grade, which strikes me a pretty foolish in itself, but getting started again presents a real problem. There are two lead GG1s on this train. After saving and quitting the scenario (just can't and won't sit at a computer for more than an hour at a time), on restart I found myself driving the 2nd loco rather than the first. When that required stop occurred, I set the reverser to neutral and pressed CTRL-and-+ to get back to the front loco, which worked only after several tries. However, I couldn't get the (truly) loco to start moving forward again. I saved, quit, and spent some time re-reading the GG1 manual, which doesn't contain driving instructions, so I also re-read the good-old driver's manual. When I restarted the scenario, I was in the 2nd loco again!!!!!!!!!!!! Moved to the ... well, nothing I tried would get me past that darn stop. So, I re-ran the e-n-t-i-r-e scenario and just didn't make that stop. Deciphering the switching instructions at scenario's end was not much fun, but I did so. And what did I get for all this? A big red X, that's what.

Well, apologies for that rant, but I certainly feel better ... and may just try another passenger scenario.

The RSC GG1 is fast becoming one of my favourite locos. The model looks and feels superb, and the cab is like nothing else on earth!
