I'd been avoiding RSC's GG1 precisely because, as someone else has already mentioned, I didn't want to buy the Northeast Corridor route as well. This wasn't just a money issue: I don't care for passenger scenarios. Then came the 50% off sale, and I folded. I'm no better with passenger scenarios for having run a couple on this route, but running at 120 mph is fun.
Let me get back to the GG1, though. Is there any way to access the left-seat cab view? Pressing the left arrow key just takes me into the area behind the engineer's seat, where I can see the signal ahead display, but not the view down the tracks. Then there's the "Bonus GG1" scenario that at least involves driving a freight train, but since it's just a l-o-n-g run, it's a passenger scenario without station stops. At the end of the run, the driver is required to stop on an uphill grade, which strikes me a pretty foolish in itself, but getting started again presents a real problem. There are two lead GG1s on this train. After saving and quitting the scenario (just can't and won't sit at a computer for more than an hour at a time), on restart I found myself driving the 2nd loco rather than the first. When that required stop occurred, I set the reverser to neutral and pressed CTRL-and-+ to get back to the front loco, which worked only after several tries. However, I couldn't get the (truly) loco to start moving forward again. I saved, quit, and spent some time re-reading the GG1 manual, which doesn't contain driving instructions, so I also re-read the good-old driver's manual. When I restarted the scenario, I was in the 2nd loco again!!!!!!!!!!!! Moved to the ... well, nothing I tried would get me past that darn stop. So, I re-ran the e-n-t-i-r-e scenario and just didn't make that stop. Deciphering the switching instructions at scenario's end was not much fun, but I did so. And what did I get for all this? A big red X, that's what.
Well, apologies for that rant, but I certainly feel better ... and may just try another passenger scenario.
