Please finish your SD45 range first; ATSF, SP, DRGW, PRR, CSX.

Then the SD45-2 would be a better follow up model that the SD40 as predecessor to SD40-2 mk II/III in my opinion.

Okay...
I was keeping my mouth shut until now... but... we have tons of SD40s already with sound and physics fixes, and reskins available. This kinda reminds me of the flood of SD70 variants.

The American diesels are pretty well covered these days, except for Alco and Baldwin Lima Hamilton products.
I'm surprised no one ever mentions Montreal Locomotive Works in Canada, which was a subdivision of Alco.

Most would think a SD40 and SD40-2 are the same but they are not. Over the years most SD40s where upgraded to SD40-2s however there are subtle differences. For one a SD40 is 3 feet 2 inches shorter and 8000 lbs lighter than a manufactured SD40-2 for a total length of 65'8" vs it's 68'10" big brother. The original prototype SD40s were even shorter, built on a SD35 frame at 60'8', a full 8'2" shorter than the SD40-2 and only 5' longer than a GP40, it almost looks like a GP40 on SD trucks. Google CN or IC SD40-X 6071 and you will see what I mean. UP and GMO were also owners of the original prototype units. There are also many other details one could go into but there is enough differences to justify another SD40 series locomotive from this writers perspective.

The SD40-2 default not opening of doors or windows and it is already outdated over the years.
Therefore it needs to relaunch a new SD40-2 or make the first series.

I see a mars light! !!*ok*!! I like the roster choice!

I don't know if its too late at this point, but if you could put a bell where the cab mounted headlight is, you would basically have a GMD SD40 which CP and CN had hundreds of.

Okay.
I have to admit a S.P. variant with 60s to 70s fixtures would peak my interest.
I see the screen shots are showing one truck with six brake cylinders and one with four. Don't forget S.P. units used 4 cylinders on the SD trucks.
Notice where the brake cylinders are on this S.P. SD40 in the link?
I personally would like to see something less weathered than the S.P. SD45.

Something more like this. S.P. really didn't get horribly filthy until the last years, before the U.P. merger.

Well this is interesting.
The Santa Fe SD40s had the same trucks as the S.P. SD40s with the brake cylinders under the side frames.

I believe the SD35/SD40/SD45 first came with low mounted brake cylinders.
However, railroads quickly found that these were easily damaged in derailments, so later orders and rebuilts had high mounted brake cylinders.

That could be.
The brake cylinders would also pick up a lot more road grime, grit and debris strikes when mounted down low.

I have a doubt. I found pictures of the SD40 with the parking brake at the end of long hood and others units with the brake handle in the nose.
It is the same with the brake cylinders. Appears in some pictures one cylinder to truck.
I find no other solution that make two versions

It's not one brake cylinder per truck.
The brake cylinders are below the truck frame and between the drivers. You can see that in the photos I posted. The round bulges below the sideframes, between the wheels and behind some kind of links.

On the C.P. engine I posted, there is one brake cylinder mounted outside the sideframe and high, but the others are below the sideframe and between the drivers.

I circled them, where they are on this particular C.P. engine. On the S.P. and Santa Fe engines the brake cylinders are all down under the frames, like the C.P. engine's front truck.

Note: I notice that some of the bearings are different on that CP SD40 as well. I've never seen a vintage EMD engine with those kinds of bearings before. !**conf**!

Looks very good, will these be sold on Steam, and use Anthony's 645E3 sounds?

I believe an ATSF version might be most important since there is no ATSF on Steam store. They're great for Cajon Pass.

An SP version is always welcome ;) Perfect for Donner Pass. This is the -1 model whereas a -2 comes with the route.
