That's nice and all, but you can't beat the detailed assets that Marc put together .

This thing isn't even out yet and we have many commenting on the quality and the rolling stock and I don't know what all. Can't we just wait until we see what it is before judging or is that too much to ask?

What is a fact:
All textures you can see on https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/tra ... /tehachapi are DTG's standard textures.
Marc had his own textures: soil, track, tunnel, trees.
The tree models in Marc's route are completely different. In my opinion they are a bit coarse, but they are more typical for the area than DTG's.

I signed up to the 3DTrains version but it seemed to stagnate and I removed it.

Reinstalled it again last October but I still had missing bridges and Signal Gantries along with other stuff so I removed it again.
Having paid for it I could reinstall it but is it any further finished? - Anyone know? - I see questions asked on the 3DTrains forum have been ignored
http://www.3dtrains.com/forums/index.ph ... tehachapi/

If I buy the DTG version I know I'm getting a finished route even if it might not be to the same spec

I don't believe there has been any updates since last Fall. So what you have is probably the latest.

With DTG's Tehachapi announcement, I'm sure that will be the death nail on any future development with the 3DTrains version. Which is sad as the 3DTrains version is more representative of the Tehachapi I remember growing up with. But, I will probably purchase the DTG version... if nothing else just to get some of the assets missing from the 3DTrains version. Even if I can get the missing bridges placed, that will make the 3DTrains route "close enough" for me.

Well, this route may be unfinished, but, from day one I've used all of Marc's handcrafted scenery assets on nearly all of my other layouts acquired, DLC and freebies, they are magnificent and bring everything to life on my American, British and German routes, especially.
His VW vans, Kenworth semi trucks and trailers, the schoolbuses, the go-karts, the small Cessna planes, the clutter and junk and the ground litter, all add to the atmosphere of so many maps, they were worth the money alone over the years in my eyes. Yes, of course it's a great pity the route wasn't completed, but, I'm not complaining too much, thank you to Marc for what he has provided for the community, the quality was outstanding.
