Description

NP-Kleenburn-Mine

A Northern Pacific steam freight scenario for the Big Horn Subdivision route, version 3.1.

In this scenario you will be in charge of a local freight from Sheridan to the mine at Kleenburn, where you will have to load your cars.
After delivering them to the coal yard at Monarch you will return to Sheridan doing a caboose hop with your old 2-8-0.

This scenario is quite challenging as your engine has barely enough power to handle the 22 coal gondolas.

Requires some pay- and freeware downloads or the use RW_Tools to substitute rolling stock.

-----------------------------------

You will start in the lumber yard at Sheridan. Your engine is a single Consolidation, which has barely enough power for the job you are about to do. Brace youself for a challenging run and make sure to always have enough steam available.

Your first task will be to assemble your outbound train. It will consist of the first boxcar in line on Yard Siding 7 (the NP 40' car). Pick it up, then go and pick up all of the empty gondolas on Yard Siding 10. Finally, couple the first caboose from the Aux and Caboose track to the end of your train.

Please note: when switching on the north end of Sheridan yard, you must make sure to always align the switch past the yard exit signal so you are running onto the drill track and do not foul the mainline! If you fail to do so any mainline trains will be stopped at the yard entry signal and you will have some explaining to do when you get back to the yard office.

Also note that all yard switches are manual! Make sure they are all aligned correctly before going anywhere, check your 2d map often and always look what the switch stands indicate.

Once your train is ready you should receive the highball at the yard exit signal. There are mainline trains for next few hours, so take your time. Get to Kleenburn and enter the coal mine yard, then load all of the gondolas at the loading hopper. Once all cars have been loaded you must set out the single boxcar you brought with you, it contains a shipment of tools needed at the mine and will stay here to be unloaded. Spot it on mine yard siding 5.

Next, reverse out of the coal mine yard back onto the mainline and make the short run over to Monarch, where you will have to spot your entire train on Siding 1. Run around your train and pick up the caboose with your front coupler, then return with engine and caboose only to Sheridan Yard.

Note: On the run from Kleenburn to Monarch, you may be forced to double your train up the short grade. Should you stall anywhere, simply uncouple the rear half of your train, of course without blocking any grade crossings, and get the first half safely to Monarch, then return and pick up the second half. If you do that, you must however make sure that the order of the cars remains the same, in other words that the rear part of your train is still the rear part after reuniting both parts at Monarch.

Below is a list of the rolling stock required by this scenario.
